Rundown of the days pt. 2

Jul 02, 2009 23:55

Saturday: We started the day by trying to find a bagel place we'd seen on Friday, failed at that, and ended up at a Starbucks since they're fucking everywhere. After that we continued on down 6th Ave until we got to the Rockefeller Center and we took pictures and then went into the NBC store. We looked around at stuff and I had a hell of a time deciding what shirt I wanted. I still didn't know what one after a while, so we decided to get the tickets for the studio tour. After getting the tickets we had an hour or so to kill so Karen and I stayed in the NBC store and cafe area while my mom and aunt headed out to look at the store for the Met and some other stuff. When it came time for the tour we got in line behind this AWFUL annoying family and it's not like you can trade spots with other people in line so we were stuck by them for a while. They start the tour by having you watch a video and then you move on, go through the metal detectors, and hop on elevators. Which, btw, cramming 15 people into a small elevator is not something I'd like to do again. But then they took us to Brian Williams' news desk and Fallon's studio and SNL, so it was at least worth it. And did you know the Roots travel to NYC everyday from Philadelphia. crazy! When the tour ended we went back to the shop and bought shirts. I got this:

Awesome! We then headed to Saks 5th Avenue, which my aunt referred to as "the Mothership" and then went to St. Patrick's Cathedral. Which was pretty cool architecturally. But while we were in there a wedding was about to start and Karen and I were like, ooookaayyy let's go, but our mom and aunt SAT DOWN AND CREEPED ON IT. we left after the bride had walked down the aisle. We then decided to split up for a little bit. Karen and I headed back to the nbc store for things that we decided to get as afterthoughts (which really means Chuck lanyards)

we met back up a little later, walked around a little (to the United Nations building and Grand Central Station) and then went to McCormick and Schmick's for dinner. Which was fantastic, I love their Fish & Chips. IT started raining while we were inside, so we ate slowly and by the time we left it had stopped. We walked back to the hotel and just spent time relaxing. and by relaxing I mean watching Man vs. Wild and Men vs. Wild.

Sunday: This ended up being a pretty good day. It had the possibility of being disastrous, because sometimes my family gets horribly annoying at museums and they either stick to me like glue or completely disappear and I don't have an idea where they are, but they were good about their distance. We started by taking a cab to Strawberry Fields in Central Park, which was a really nice area. Then walked through the park and totally guessed at the paths to take and somehow miraculously made it to the other side of the park, only about 6 blocks from the Met. We got there, decided what exhibits we wanted to see (Michaelangelo's first painting, the fashion exhibit, the photography exhibit, the afghanistan exhibit, and a few others) and then started looking around. We went to the roof and saw the sculpture up there, and then started on the second floor exhibits. After awhile we got hungry and headed outside to find a place to eat lunch/brunch. we walked around and found a restaurant and ate HUGE muffins. Then we headed down the street to the Guggenheim, got inside, didn't like that it was crammed full of people and horribly loud and noisey, and headed back to the Met to hit up the things we hadn't seen. Which was a good chunk of the European art, and we got lost in those areas numerous times. We saw 1 painting at least 5 times before we found a way out of that wing. We then wandered back through Central Park and then to our hotel (we may have taken a cab back? I don't honestly remember) and then went to dinner dessert at Lindy's. every one of us ordered cheesecake. Either on the way back from cheesecake or Central Park we stopped at the Stage Door for 9 to 5 because a show had just gotten out and waited around for Allison Janney to come out. And then we took more pictures. Because she's amazing. Wait. I just remembered. We went back to the hotel and the stage door, then went to Lindy's, then back to the hotel to grab umbrellas because we wanted to see 30 Rockefeller at night, then to 30 Rock, then back to the hotel room.

(this was one of my favorite paintings but my camera never took a good photo of it

 She's so fucking fantastic

this was the view from our room. the red at the bottom is a bunch of stair things that people can sit on, and underneath is like, a ticket selling area for plays and musicals

Monday: We got up super early and went to the airport :( and then on our flight we had a screaming baby who didn't shut up for at least an hour. when we got home we went to the bank and then the secretary of state to get new permits because ours expired back in November when we turned 18. But now at least I've taken half of the driving test. WOO. all I have to do is practice parallel parking and I'm pretty much good to go.

travel: new york, 9 to 5, {shopping}, allison janney, metropolitan museum of art, awesomeness, 30 rock
