Poker is up and down.
Got into a $5/$5 NL game early before the tournament in the morning. There was a player who was already into the game for about $2k, and he'd just come back from the bank (honestly) with "more".
On his first hand, he shoved one stack ($100) before the flop and said, "I bet blind." He was this kind of player. He lost his first rack on this hand when he shoved his last $400 into the nuts. After a re-buy, he dropped $200 on the very next hand. He's got $300 left on the button when I pick up AKs in middle position. I make it $25 to go, get called immediately by the guy on my left, and the nutbar shoved the rest of his rack in ($305). I shove for $550, hoping to lock out the third player. After a long ponder, he finally folds JJ face up. An A hits the turn and I get his chips (he had A7o). Unfortunately, I had to go play the tournament. I would have stayed in that game all day.
The tournament wasn't pretty. 5-handed shootout to match play. I'm 2nd out at my table after my KK got crippled by QT (got it all in pre-flop). I never recovered. Congrats to -OZ- for winning.
The list for the $5/$5 was long, so I jumped into a smaller $3/$5 $200 game. Mistake. There was no way I was winning here. I was up against a motley lot of players who I could never even put on a range of hands, much less anything specific. On two occasions I lay down the best hand because the opponent I was facing made a huge bet with what he/she thought was the best hand. Example, I have KK. I raise pre-flop after four limpers to $40. One woman calls. Flop is 3 9 J. I bet $60, she calls. Turn is an A and she bets out $150. I fold. She turns over T9o and sais, "My 9 good. I knew you not have anything!"
Chips please.
It went this way for three hours and $400 until I finally got up in disgust
I didn't play any more poker yesterday. The banquet was good, the food was decent, and the company was excellent as could be expected. Jerrod did a nice talk about the evolution of poker theory, explaining some pretty cool concepts. Russ and I went home shortly after, watched three episodes of Get SMart and went to bed.
Today, we have the NLHE at 12:15. As soon as I bust (if I do), I'll be jumping into the $5/$5 pond for one last go. I'll have a last report from the City of Angels tomorrow morning, then it's off to LAX for the journey home.
Oh, and I didn't see that redhead after the second day, dammit. Sigh. Perhaps I'll have to get a job with FTP and move to Ireland. Either that, or get my wife to let her natural red hair come back out.
