Summary:
Basically I wanted to write a little something for FFF “One is such a lonely number” (
http://lure-atwt.livejournal.com/2757501.html) - in honor of ESS’ awesome acting. Since I didn’t get anything done back then but couldn’t get the great pic out of my head either, I decided to write a short story about Reid celebrating New Year’s Eve in Paris - alone…BUT...sure there's a happy ending!
3 Eating humble pie in the Lakeview
“Reid…” the unique, soft voice almost hit him to the core.
That just couldn’t be true, right?
It took Reid a minute to react.
“Luke…” His voice sounded as if he had a cold; therefore he tried to clear his throat.
“May I…?”
Luke touched the back of the chair but hesitated to sit down.
“If I say no - would you actually go away? I doubt it!” Reid replied but not in a very angry way - it sounded more resigned.
“No.”
Luke smiled and sat down.
“So?” The blond started to do what?
Reid watched him intently but kept silent. What was he supposed to answer to an elliptic question, „So?”, anyway?
“Reid, Bob won’t come…”
“No way…” Reid answered cynically.
“Yes, I asked him to make you come here…”
“…Old habits die hard, they say.”
Luke took a deep breath:
“You still can’t look at me…”
“What do you want from me, Luke?”
“I have one single question…”
“Which is?”
“Are you leaving because of me? Because Oakdale reminds you of me?”
“Luke - why are you doing this?” Now Reid was actually getting upset.
“Sorry, I am not here to hurt you; actually I am here to …reframe…”
“What?”
“I’ve made so many mistakes - I want to make up for them.”
“Luke, listen…all that - is water under the bridge…in a few weeks I’m up and away and …”
“I wasn’t in LA, Reid, well, I was there for a few months. But then I moved to New York and finally graduated.”
“Creative writing?” Reid asked softly; following Luke on the net had been too hurtful and neither Bob nor Katie dared to mention Luke’s personal circumstances so Reid actually had no clue what the blond had done since then.
“No, business management - specialized in nonprofit organizations.”
“Congratulations!”
“Yeah, I needed to do this before coming back. And now I want to ask you to postpone your departure.”
“Why?”
“To rewrite history.”
What was Reid supposed to say to that?
“Please, Reid - give me just a week.”
Yet Reid had no idea how to react.
Luke looked around as if he’d set foot into his mother’s hotel for the first time, but then he asked calmly:
“I guess you remember the meeting with Mona Cross - sure you do - I was such an ass…I wanted to hurt you, because you hurt me…I always knew, that you’re a dedicated doctor. And I’m so sorry. You fled from the situation and the minute you were gone I realized how childish I was…”
“Luke, what do you want me to say?”
“If you still like me - let me do this, let us do this - relive those situations that went especially wrong and do it better this time.”
Reid’s brain screamed: “No!”, and he was absolutely willing to obey the best part of him.
But then Luke bent forward, invaded his personal space one more time and cupped Reid’s hand.
“You know, I still wouldn’t sleep with you after the surgery…”
“Yeah, that wasn’t my most brilliant idea… I know, sorry.” Reid whispered.
“We were both upset and if we’d have had sex…”
“I get it, Luke…” - no need to reopen old sores…
“But the day we played chess…I would act totally different now. The things I said to you…sorry…unbelievable!”
Luke started to caress Reid’s hand with his thumb - unable to refrain from doing it. Blinking the younger man almost felt the way Reid had caressed his cheek with his tender, tender fingers. It hadn’t happened often nevertheless he remembered those precious moments in a very intense way.
Meanwhile the lump in Reid’s throat reached the size of an apple now, so he was literally incapable of speaking.
“I know I am late…but I do hope it didn’t take me too long for you to rethink…”
When Luke stopped talking Reid averted his eyes from Luke’s big hand still cupping his smaller one and looked him in the eye.
“Luke…”
4 Paris - City of Love (2014)
It was a piece of art. Luke couldn’t think of a garden more beautiful. Last night it had been snowing therefore Jacques’ Magic garden looked as if powdered with icing sugar.
The house was still captured in Morpheus’ arms, in heavenly silence. The only noises caressing his ears were soft little snores. Reid suffered from his allergic rhinitis once again. But Luke loved to hear him breathing, so he knew he was alive and with him. Luke was lost in his thoughts, wrapped in blissful happiness he’d never hoped for.
Susurration, soft moaning, sighing and then the familiar:
“Come here…cold without you…”
How could he not? How could he not turn, pad back and join his beautiful lover under the warm blanket.
Reid didn’t even open his eyes, he blindly grabbed Luke’s arm and held on to it, turned his back to Luke, pressed his ass into Luke’s groin, wiggled his small, firm butt and grunted contently. In an instant he was lost in dreamland again and Luke chuckled - who would have thought that his man was such an abundant sleeper - and passionate cuddler and devoted lover?
Last year Luke’s hidden dreams had come true. He finally was with the man, he loved, he cherished, he wanted to never let go and he was absolutely positive that Reid felt the same.
They’d really done it.
They’d relived, almost re-rehearsed former hurtful events and situations and had done them right then. They attributed a new meaning to “Second chances” and they did it comme il faut.
They’d talked about the beginning, about Dallas, the Mona Cross debacle and they’d kissed - in the Lakeview, at Java’s, at Al’s and at Yo’s. They’d hopped on the plane, visiting Noah who finally thanked Reid for restoring his sight and who presented them his new lover, Christopher, a friendly man who ran a nice bistro in LA. He was the down-to- earth kind of guy who grounded Noah without patronizing him.
They’d visited Damian and Reid’s uncle, Reid and Lilli had agreed on never becoming best friends but respecting each other and Emma and Luke’s siblings had taken Reid in their hearts quite a while anyway - having witnessed from afar the way he mourned after Luke.
Well there had been turbulences though - like Luke learning about Jacques. Although Reid swore that nothing intimate had happened between him and the mysterious French, Luke died with jealousy. It was irrational, it was incomprehensible, it was unjustified, but it was deeply felt pain.
Reid refused to break contact though. He and Jacques exchanged news, thoughts, listened to each other and helped each other - he didn’t want to lose his friend.
It was then when Jacques invited them both to spend some days in Paris in summertime. Meeting Jacques in person - and Paul, the doctor who’d treated Jacques partner till death - that things changed. Shortly after Reid had left Paris returning to Oakdale last year, Jacques ran into the doctor having breakfast in Jacques favorite café. The greeting led to conversation and that led to making an appointment to watch the movie, staring an actor, André Dussollier, they both liked.
What a coincidence! Two men falling in love with the neurologists who treated their former loves, that was something exceptional - even if Jacques’ and his partner’s story had a tragic outcome while Noah lived happily in LA.
Spending New Year’s Eve with Jacques and Paul had been wonderful and Luke sighed dreamily, life was good! And it seemed to get even better, given Reid’s little ass coming back to life, grinding against Luke’s growing erection.
“Stop pondering - need you - now!” Reid’s husky request filled Luke’s entire blood system with prickly hot fluid - lifeblood - how true and all of it had only one destination: his penis, which found its way home - blindly.
There’s no aria, no song or poem that sounded more beautiful than a duet of two lovers, sighing, whimpering, moaning, screaming in perfect harmony.

Happy New Year to all of you!
