Poisoning the Well

It's a logical fallacy, normally used to discredit someone before you hear what they have to say.

Thing is, stating "I think this is a great idea, here's why, now what do you think?", and then expecting to get a range of opinions from positive to negative is a form of poisoning the well. You've set up an expectation that people should agree with you, and so you might not be willing to listen to their opinion if it's different from yours.

So yeah, I have an opinion about this 4-day convention thing. I just don't think that MY opinion should be trotted out in an attempt to encourage others to agree with me.

I POSTED BECAUSE A VERY NARROW SECTION OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ASKED FOR THEIR OPINION, AND THEY AREN'T THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE DECISION TO BE MADE. THEY DESERVE TO HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD TOO.

The people I've encouraged to email the Convergence Coordinators are mostly those who AREN'T on the concom, and who therefore might not know who to send their comments to.
