Earlier this week I managed to nip off and catch the final play of the match between the Chudley Cannons and the Tutshill Tornadoes on the Wireless. It does sound as though Cadwallader shall prove to be an interesting replacement for Maloney. However, I suspect that the Tornadoes are not yet in their prime. I cannot fathom how they allowed Jenkins to get away with such a foul. I dare wonder if the Cannons are resorting to new tactics to improve their chances of winning. Perhaps crossing one's fingers is no longer proving to be a worthy training regiment.
I've had it passed on to me that the Tornadoes performed a most impressive Woollongong Shimmy earlier in the match. While the Tornadoes do have a strong front in Schur, Evergreen and Webb, Chasers do not a solid team make and the Kestrels have proved to be a good, solid team yearly and I do believe hard training shall pay off. Quick and Tierney are a spectacular pair of Beaters between them, though the favourite of the Kestrels shall always be Kilmartin. It never ceases to astonish me that a Seeker of her build flies so sprightly.
I like Puddlemere's chances this year as well, though of course I may, if I should be so crude to admit it, be slightly biased in that my own previous Quidditch captain is their current Keeper. Wood's a good player: focussed, enthusiastic and well-trained. Causley is a strict captain, or so I'm told. I am faced with an interesting decision this Saturday next; the Kestrels will be in Puddlemere and I daresay I'd like to take in the match myself. I'm not fooling myself with notions of idle fantasy that allow a Deputy Headmistress to relieve herself of her duties on a Saturday, though I do believe Albus may in fact see the point that the first Kestrels match of the year is quite an important one to catch. We shall see.
My own house team is short a Chaser and a Beater this year, now that Eberly and Endwalk have left. Over the course of the week I've managed to hear of a few students who wish to try out and I think they'll do quite nicely indeed. This year is shaping up to be a good one, if the Gryffindors trying out are to be any evidence of such. I have complete faith in Landgreen's abilities to choose the best players for the team, though I would like to watch the tryouts myself simply for the fun of it. I shall have to set aside my free time that afternoon in order to arrange it.
Albus has decided to arrange another social event this year. I myself have scarcely recovered from the celebration of his birthday. I am beginning to suspect that all social events Albus organises are destined for disaster. What shall be shall, indeed, be.
