Scorpio Horoscope for December 2009
By Susan Miller
Take it slow and easy in December, dear Scorpio. Let go, and let others call you if they need you. Nothing earth shattering will get done in December because Mars and Mercury will be out of phase. While this spells "less progress," it also spells more time for fun and rest, and that's not so bad, is it?
Let's talk about Mars first because this one is an important planet for you - it's one of your rulers, and its job is to take very good care of you!
Since mid-October, you have had Mars in your professional tenth house of honors, awards, achievement, and fame, so you've impressed everyone with your focus, vision, and get-up-and-go. Mars is still in this house, and will remain there until early June. So far, you've proven to higher ups that there is no obstacle too big for you to tackle or problem too complex to solve. It is little wonder that everyone wants you in their corner. You are on a fast track to the top, dear Scorpio.
Now, however, you'll need to pull back and wait for others to catch up with some of the ideas and projects you've already put forward. To press for answers now would only bring you frustration. You are an action-oriented person, so the thought of having to take a passive approach for the coming weeks may be distressing to hear, but considering the amount of static that the planets are about to stir up, it will be the smart way to go. Mars is now moving very slowly and will soon shut down for a nap when retrograde from December 20 to March 10.
A slow orbiting planet - like Mars right now - is like a long distance runner who has hit a wall. He's exhausted and barely able to help himself, let alone you. This means that from the very start of December, Mars is already in a weakened state, and he hasn't even gone retrograde yet. We need a potent Mars to help us achieve big things - he brings passion, energy, and drive to all he touches, and in your house of professional reputation and career success, a strong Mars is vital. His full retrograde period will be, as said, December 20 to March 10.
The first part of that two-month phase will be the most frustratingly slow for you, for Mercury will also be going retrograde from December 26 to January 16. When Mercury is retrograde, our judgment is not working at full potential, and we become forgetful and distracted. When you hear that Mercury is about to retrograde, that should register in your mind that the wind is about to change direction and that conditions are in flux. This is never a time to make major decisions, and never a time to sign contracts.
On top of that, within this period we will have two eclipses, one on December 31 and the other January 15, so there really will be reason to hold back. Until the eclipses have spoken, you won't know the whole story, and coming developments might affect your decisions. You and I will discuss the eclipses later in this report, but my point in mentioning them now is to show you that a great deal of cosmic dust is being kicked up and you won't be able to clearly see the road ahead. You may get good career news without even lifting a finger, so let that happen on its own, organically. To be assertive now would be out of step with the rhythm of the universe.
Now let's turn to Uranus, which has influence over your solar fourth house of home and your fifth house of love, which Uranus is visiting now. Now that Uranus is about to turn direct, both areas are due to get a big boost and developments should be obvious. Watch the days that surround December 1 for a sign that a goal related to home, property, or family, or related to your finding and keeping true love, will improve dramatically. If you've had problems settling a matter related to either area of your life, you will be very gratified by the new environment you are entering into now.
Money will be the topic of conversation on the December 2 full moon, plus or minus four days. This full moon should feel quite friendly, so you may see a commission, bonus, or licensing fee from previous efforts come in. The eighth house will be lit, so this house is one that is associated with one-time chunks of cash rather than steady salary money. With Mars in such fine angle to the Sun and moon, the money seems career-oriented, so if the just-mentioned areas don't sound possible, then the money you see may come in the form of venture capital or a bank loan. It is, however, also possible that you will hear of a court settlement or insurance payout. You may also have to send someone a hefty check, but if so, don't be blue, as your outlook for bringing in more money is actually quite upbeat.
One day when making money should come easily would be December 10, when the Sun and Mars will combine energies to create profits and all sorts of good news about money. Things are about to get even better.
On the new moon December 16, you may get a raise or job offer. This new moon will be all about money, so be sure you like the job, dear Scorpio. It's not actually a good time to change jobs due to the impending retrograde planets, for you may get into the job and wonder what you were thinking when you accepted it. However, it is a good time to ask for a raise, so you must do so as soon as that new moon appears. If you are self-employed, you may now see money flow in from entrepreneurial projects you seeded earlier.
The new moon is positive in that Mars will be friendly and supportive, but disruptive too, in that Uranus will be in a cranky mood. As mentioned earlier, Uranus is very connected to your home situation, so you may discover a roommate is moving and leaving you to pay the rent or that you need to spend money on a home repair. I would be sorry to hear that, and I hope this is not the way things work for you. A social event may be pricey too, or you may simply spend too much on the one you love! Hopefully money will not become a concern this month, but if it does, you do have good aspects for bringing in more money, especially later.
For a salary increase or for generating new business, the second half of the month shines. Within that time period, December 17 stands out, for Venus will signal Mars, linking both your accomplishments and recent victories to your house of salary. This is a very good day to make your case for a raise or to present to a big client.
Socially, it looks like you'll have fun, too. A perfect day for a trim-the-tree party or open house at your place would be December 19 or 20, when Venus will send a sweet kiss to Jupiter, now in your house of home. These dates fall on Saturday and Sunday, which would be perfect. Fill your home with lovely wintry scents - cookies in the oven or baked bread, scented candles, and fresh pine. You can ask friends to bring their favorite dish or bottle of wine, so you can entertain very affordably. It would be a shame not to use these dazzling days for entertaining. There is another reason you may want to consider. The day after, December 21, will be quite spectacular, for Jupiter, the giver of gifts and luck, will align perfectly with Neptune, the planet of poetry and art, for the last time in this decade.
This meeting of Jupiter and Neptune is a monumental aspect. Because they move so slowly, they won't see each other again in alignment until April 12, 2022, and after that not until March 24, 2035, just once in those years. Use the meeting of these highly benefic planets to further your creativity and mastery over your work in the arts, and for doing fine work for a charity or community program or to help anyone less fortunate. This is a bouquet of an aspect, and coming at holiday time, it sends a message of hope and compassion to each of us.
On a lighter note, Jupiter and Neptune can sprinkle a generous amount of stardust in the air to mesmerize us so that we forget mundane worries that sometimes weigh us down and show us a higher more spiritual vision of ourselves. These two can also help you create a truly dream-like experience, dear Scorpio, for this is a very glamorous aspect. Jupiter and Neptune will meet up in your fourth house of home, giving you still another reason to consider entertaining over the weekend of December 19 and 20. That weekend would be perfect for giving a festive gathering.
For New Year's Eve, you may be traveling to a distant city. This eclipse will fall in your ninth house of long distance travel, so you may even be going abroad. Saturn will be in very hard angle to the Sun and moon from your twelfth house, suggesting that you might have some sort of interaction with medical personnel at the time. I hope this does not happen, but I am seeing the possibility in the chart.
If you do travel, you will have to take precautions to stay well. Don't drink the water if it is not considered perfectly safe, and don't eat any fruit that you didn't peel first. Carry Clorox wipes or other antibacterial towelettes to wipe down your tray table, armrests, and surfaces in the airplane's toilet. Also go over various parts of your hotel room, from TV remote and phone, to draw pulls, light switches, and doorknobs. Budget cuts in every country have caused cutbacks in cleaning staff, so you can't be too careful, especially with Saturn in the twelfth house.
There are other parts of life ruled by the ninth house, so let's look at ways the eclipse December 31 could possibly affect you. First, this eclipse is in Cancer, a sign that blends well with yours. That helps a lot, but jolting news often shows up with an eclipse, so you have to be ready for that. The fact that the eclipse is in good angle to your Sun means that you will likely benefit from the actions brought on by the eclipse, even if you don't immediately think so. This eclipse will be a lunar full moon eclipse, indicating an ending or culmination. In two weeks we will have this eclipse's twin, January 15, which will be a new moon solar eclipse and will open a new door.
If you work in broadcasting or publishing, this eclipse may bring the end of a project or the end of your work at a media company. Or, it may simply mean you are ready to show a very important project.
If you work in international trade, you may see a final shipment or the end to a long contract you've had with a certain client abroad. Certainly an international situation will be on your radar screen now. Be careful about any possible difficulty with shipping. Have your paperwork perfect to avoid any difficulties with customs and attend to other details that could be a problem.
If you are in college, you may be finished with your course of study and now ready to get your degree, or you may be switching to another university setting. If you teach college, the same may be true, for something seems to be ending and a new chapter will soon shape up. In the meantime, it looks like the world is due for a bit of a zinger before year's end.
Eclipses bring sudden changes, but they are very effective in making us move on and evolve into more mature beings. Usually the cause is something completely unrelated to anything you've done or have control over. Because the eclipses will be in the parts of your chart ruling information, attitude, and opinion, you may later say you changed your stance on an important topic or relationship when you began to see things in a new light. Eclipses are broadening, forcing us to see a bigger picture.
Certain relatives are ruled by the houses involved with eclipses, so you may hear news about an aunt, uncle, cousin, in-law, sister, or brother. If you do travel, family may want to reach you, so you won't want to be out of touch.
If you were born on or within five days of November 2, you will feel this lunar eclipse the most. One way or another, you will benefit from it, so don't freak if things seem to be going in all the wrong direction as you begin to experience the eclipse. (I am not saying you will feel this day, but if you do.) You are moving into one of the most sterling years in recent memory, so 2010 will certainly not be a rerun of last year.
Romantically, things will perk up once Venus enters Capricorn on December 25 until January 18. Travel and love seem linked, so if you can take a long weekend away with the one you love, it would be a great idea. Be sure to go before you get to January 18. Mercury retrograde during that time means nothing important will be going on at the office, so you can safely take a few vacation days without fear that you will miss something crucial.
Summary
December is often a time you tend to your ledgers, as you get ready to close the chapter on another year. Perhaps you do so to get the jump on tax planning, or perhaps you find that looking at income and outgo helps you decide how to best appropriate your time and resources in the coming year. Scorpio is usually wise with handling money, and this month you seem to prove this to one and all.
At the full moon, December 2, you will make a decision or two, and perhaps make a financial initiation. It's an excellent time to do so. With Mars, your ruler, harmonious, and Saturn too, you will be satisfied and confident that you made the right choices - rightly so.
On December 10, you'll score a sweet victory at work, thanks to a perfect interaction of Mars and the Sun. This will be a sure-fire day to impress your boss or client, for certainly you'll be able to increase sales and profits.
Mark down December 16 as another day when you could charm the birds from the trees - and get a raise despite a tight corporate budget. With Mars and Venus in divine sync, it would be impossible to turn you down. You are one they won't want to lose.
If you've been wondering when to ask for a raise, the answer is shortly after the new moon appears December 16. This will be a time of reward for you, for both Jupiter and Neptune will be standing in the wings to encourage the results you want. Jupiter is the planet of good fortune, and Neptune, inspiration and dreams, so gather up your courage and ask. You won't have a new moon this powerful again for a full year.
Romantically, consider giving a party at home on December 12 or 13 when the Sun will smile on all your efforts to create a festive gathering at home. It's the perfect time to plan a buffet, and you can even ask your friends to bring their favorite dish - they'll be flattered you asked. Later, you will do best once Venus enters Capricorn on December 25 - your social life will start to move into full gear and it will keep you in plenty of invitations through the first weeks of January too.
Travel will emerge as an important trend at month's end, and thanks to the eclipse on December 31, you may be ringing in the New Year far from home. With five planets in one of two travel sectors of your chart, it's unlikely you'll be at home. Do leave a forwarding phone number of your hotel or other accommodations with pals and relatives, as eclipses bring sudden news, and family may need to reach you urgently. Highlighted on this eclipse, in addition to travel, will be aunts and uncles, in-laws, and other relatives just outside your immediate family.
