Who: Zack (i_love_squats), Elena (wellsuited)
When: Earlier today
Where: That same old building she's calling her office.
Format: Paragraph, past tense
What: Zack "enlightens" Elena about his experience and Shinra's Science Department.
Warnings: Angst, likely.

Zack might as well have asked her to meet him a year from now, that's how long an hour felt to Elena. It was plenty of time for her to pace a hole right through the wooden floor of Mahjong Palace -- the future Mahjong Palace. (No. Really. It's coming.) But every step she took felt twice as heavy as the one before it. Elena had no idea how this talk would go.

You need to know everything.

Elena still hadn't decided if she agreed or disagreed with that... But then she paused in her pacing and sighed. Like there was really a decision to be made. She had to know, and not just because she'd made a promise to not repeat Shinra's past mistakes, but also because it was just in Elena's nature to be that way.

How much of my history do you know, Elena? How much of my file did you read?

"I read what they gave me."

The Turk found herself repeating those words now. Once, they would've given her great comfort. She knew what Shinra wanted and needed her to know, and that was good enough for Elena. But when she thinks back to the anger in Zack's voice, the pain when she suggested a science department...

It's not good enough. Worse, it sounded like some kind of excuse.

She would wait the remainder of the hour out patiently. But there's no reason she can't be patient and productive. So by the time Zack arrives, he'll find Elena absorbed in the task of trying to outdraw her own shadow.
