"Riku!" The cry rang out across the fog-filled street as Sora stood there, keyblade drawn and aimed at what appeared as nothing but more fog to anyone else. The normally strong willed boy was trembling slightly, his expression hurt and betrayed even as he stared at the image of his two best friends, one of which looked annoyed, and the other smiling at him with something like pity. "Kairi..."

He ran after them, even as they continued to walk away from him, persistent, not willing to believe what they were saying.

"I'll come after you! I'll stop you! I don't know if it's the darkness or Ansem or something else, but I'll snap you out of it! I'll-" He broke off, interrupted, startling as the taller of the two figures rounded on him.

"You really can't take a hint, can you, Sora? The darkness this, heartless that, you never really thought that you might be the problem." The older boy's eyes narrowed, irritation coloring his features, and Sora flinched. "You couldn't take care of Kairi. I trusted you with her, Sora. Go on and play with your new friends. Maybe you treat them a little better."

"It's not-" He opened his mouth to retaliate, before Kairi spoke, her voice soft and sympathetic.

"Sora... When you went to fight Ansem the first time, you didn't bring me with you, did you. You brought Donald and Goofy instead. And when you closed the door to darkness, you left Riku on the other side. We've given up a lot for you, Sora, but we're still not good enough." She clasped her hands behind her back, still smiling, as Sora looked on, confused, lowering his weapon.

"It's never enough for you. You want more and more and more and we can't just keep giving. You're as bad as the darkness. Maybe that's why we don't really want to see you anymore" She shook her head, turning back to Riku, glancing at Sora over her shoulder. "You're one and the same- taking everything you think is yours, even killing off people without a second thought if they stood in your way."

It took a moment before Sora figured out what she was referring to, sounding indignant when he did. "They were nobodies! They were going to use me! They used you!" He argued, though his voice wavered. "And Yen Sid said they can't feel- that they don't have the hearts for it-"

"Really?" Kairi looked exasperated, crossing her arms as she looked at him. "Didn't they sound like they wanted to live when you fought them? I guess none of them said how Kingdom Hearts would give them the hearts that they wanted so badly, huh? You didn't hear them scream when you killed them?" When he didn't answer, speechless, eyes wide, she just gave him a small sad smile. "I thought so."

"Goes to show who's the real heartless, doesn't it?" Riku asked, turning and and starting to walk away, the redhead in tow, and this time, Sora didn't follow. Instead, he watched them, stunned and brokenhearted.

"You're lying," he murmured, when he finally found his voice. The keyblade vanished from beneath his fingers, and he fisted his hands, staring after the retreating silhouettes only he could see. "You're lying!"
