thenobledie, for now
When: June 19th, 20th? ...ish.
Where: the Foxhole
Format: action
What: Bonding while mocking people. This is a foolproof path to friendship, guys. Also, I don't mind any hijacking to talk to Shirley. ASK BREE IF YOU WANT TO CHAT WITH DENEVE. I always feel weird about closed logs in the Foxhole. :|;

There was something about rats… never reward 'em, they go away; reward them constantly, they lose interest; reward them only a bit they'll keep coming back…
She's not doing that, she's not like that. This is how it is, this is what you've earned… if she doesn't really want it's not anyone's faul-
Uch, too wise than one wants to be in the Foxhole. And too introspective than one wants to be when you're Spike.
He spins around on his stool to survey the populace, just as Shirley enters and starts past.
He actually doesn't do this all the time, but she's got that certain kindred heaviness (for a creature of light, hello, but what does he know yet?) that inspires totally inappropriate "don't know you but I will in a few minutes" openings.]
Haven't seen you here before.
[because, see above, he's here all the time. Buffy, Lilly, Dawn, and Foxhole = the women, his life.]

she pauses in her step, half-turning but mostly looking over her shoulder to acknowledge spike. normally, she ignores most men in the foxhole, and some even know to not bother now - but shirley recognizes him as scorched and one that is involved with her new roommate.]
I don't come often.
[but often enough to see a certain bartender with a scar over his mouth. and to not sing, ftr.]

It is perhaps an added point in her favor that, unasked, she brings Shirley a glass of what she most often drinks. But don't let it get around that she can actually be rather thoughtful. She likes her reputation of being hardhearted.]

You're observant.

[And it's always useful. Now, for instance. She scans the crowd with silver eyes and takes a drink of the ale she brought for herself. This person or that person catch her attention. The drunk can be amusing to observe.]
That one.
[She gestures toward a stumbling drunk with only the slightest inclination of her head.]
He will attempt to touch that woman at the bar. He won't get far.
[And moments after she makes this statement, the inebriated man tries to put his arm around the woman in question. Subtly, she pulls a knife on him. From where Deneve and Shirley sit, it is barely a flash of light. And showing what wisdom he can muster in his current state, he backs off.]

It won't be long before he attempts another woman, though.
