[ the scene is so tame and the scenery is so unfamiliar that he stares at it for a while. he's tired (he rarely sleeps during these times) and he doesn't want to close his eyes, so -

[Long, long pause. His tentatively-positive assessement of this place is taking an abrupt nose-dive.]

That's just great.

That's the only way to stop this happening for sure? And does it happen at random?

[Merlin smiles a little. It's nice to see a dream that isn't horrible. Traumatizing.]

[But then he realizes that the other guy isn't here. That maybe he's missed. And that makes his smile fade.]

[Ginko's expression is veiled when he gets around to replying to this--he's glad it wasn't anything more than a good memory of Sniper, but there are a lot of memories he wouldn't want anyone to see.]

No... that place didn't stay that long, though. [A tiny pause.] I'm assuming spearfishing is what it sounds like?

It's a little strange to explain... [He smiles faintly, not sure how this person is going to take it.] But it was a place that changed. One day you could be in a bright, sunny place, and the next you could wake up in the middle of a blizzard. I heard some older residents talking about one time it turned into Hell.

[He shrugs. Take that as you will, he didn't see it for himself.]

Hmm. Sounds interesting... have you ever done it yourself? [If the water wasn't apparently polluted around here, he might be interested in giving it a try.]

So, you were telling the truth about the whole Tree thing, weren't you? [She thought she made that stuff up due to the alcohol.]

Of course. I wouldn't make something like that up. [He actually sounds a little surprised that she didn't believe him.]

Oh! No, I didn't mean that! It's just...I was pretty gone when you told it. I thought that I had made it up.

...oh. [Well, they had been pretty drunk... he smiles faintly.]

It is a pretty incredible idea, when you think about it. Though some of the things you were saying were pretty incredible, too.

[Honestly, he probably remembers only a tiny part of what she said, but what he does remember seems pretty strange.]

Ours liked giving hugs. They were a little wet, but she always put the people she hugged back no worse for wear... unless they couldn't hold their breath long enough, I guess.
