[ Sunset finds Ukitake to be settled upon a rooftop (is it one you happen to recognize, perchance?), sitting in seiza as the heat of the day wanes, brown eyes diligently overlooking the city. In light of recent events, he has forgone wearing both captain's haori and shihakusho in favor of donning a white, button-up shirt and dark dress slacks, his ( Read more... )

[Verity frowns a little, looking thoughtful.]

It was so strange, to allow the rally to go on for days and just put it down like that.

I was there only moments before. I'd only just decided it was time to retreat because it seemed the rioters might have been catching on that I wasn't one of them. It was the oddest thing.

[ Sharing the sentiment completely, he nods, lips pressing into a thin line. ]

However glad I am that no Scorched has found a fate similar to that of the protesters, with only a single broadcast to go off of...

It was deliberate, something that we were allowed to see, for whatever reason.

Yes, so it seems. It was definitely a display of power. I would go so far as to say they - whoever 'they' are - wanted us to see it for some reason.

"We'll teach the city how to play a different game."

[ He repeats the woman's phrase from the broadcast, though his tone is more contemplative than dark. ]

For better or for worse, I would like to think of it as a warning.

Yes, it does seem to be one. Though it is worded cryptically enough that we likely won't know what it is predicting until after it's begun.

Aa. At the very least, we know the happening will not be patterned after any such occurrence before it. We certainly have no use for further rallies and riots.

[ Which begs the question: could the protesting have been incited, somehow? Or was it merely deemed an annoyance, then swiftly put to an end? ]

True enough. Though I'm afraid whatever comes next will be purposefully worse. It's not as if the natives feelings were resolved, merely put down.

It's baffling, almost, how there is a common threat afoot, yet the natives seem to be unwilling to cooperate with the Scorched in order to resolve it.

We were not the ones who quelled the rally, and still...

[ He shakes his head with a sigh. ]

It's not as if their feelings are wholly unfounded. There are some Scorched who seem to be able to easily disregard lives.

[Why yes, she has been looking back at previous Forge broadcasts.]

I just wish there was a way to open up an honest dialogue between the two groups so that we could listen to one another. Then we wouldn't have to worry about rallies or prejudice or violence nearly as much as we seem to now. If only the rally had come to a better conclusion.
