[ Gwen's Forge is on, showing the interior of the library in Anatole. A purple book is resting next to her, but that's hers, not the library's. And she's not reading that one anyway. What she is reading, from what can be seen of the title, appears to be a book on sign language. And a few French language books ( Read more... )

Combat and magic, mostly. What are they charms for?

They're protection charms. What kind of magic do you use?

How do they protect if they're just charms...?

And, uhhh...Healing and elemental magic.

The charms are infused with a protection spell. You read out the word that's written on the back of the charm to activate it.

[Approval. It's in the cant of his head and the nod he gives her. Whether or not she was studying on his account, he appreciates the effort. He taps the screen once.]

That*. Went out of my way to learn it after I lost my voice. Everything else I know's from either boot camp or the dojo.

((OOC: Sign language, of course.))

[ As a matter of fact, she was! Mostly anyway. She smiles, watching the hand motions carefully. ]

How long did it take you to learn?

A little longer than I'd have wanted. Downtime wasn't easy to come by. But it helped having a natural aptitude for the stuff. Never been much of a talker.

What about you?

Technically you could say I'm still learning. I didn't get any formal kind of instruction in it so most of what I know now, I learned on the side as an extra curricular.

Then I ... sort of let it go a little, since other things came up and I didn't have time to practice it as much.

Protection from danger, or warning of danger, depending on the spell infused into it. Those are the ones I've made most, but I've been trying to make charms for other things too.

What areas were you self taught in?

I'm willing. I want to keep practicing and training, and making new charms is a good way to do that.

I had formal studies as well, but I also studied on an independent level on the subject of ancient languages and demonology.

I can't say we had any kind of independent study on demonology exactly - but I've researched things my friends and I have encountered with my computer. What kind of ancient languages? Like Latin?

Latin is one of them, though some were even older than that.

Even older? It must have been hard to find a reference to translate against. Most of the books I had - my magic book I mean - it's sort of written in Latin. Or at least it has a base in Latin - reading it is the easy part.
