As Kuchiki said, it is the duty of those who protect the people to enact justice. This is to discourage eye-for-an-eye behaviour.

But aren't we doing an eye-for-an-eye? Shouldn't there be another way to punish them or stop it from happening at all?

A justice system is meant to dissuade criminals rather than escalate conflict. There's not much we can do when our charges do not fear the law and are nigh impossible to imprison or punish without extreme force. This isn't my domain, here, but I've spent most of my life in the pursuit of justice and support the Police Division.

Then, maybe we need to find something else. Maybe we need to think outside the box. Maybe we need to make them fear us.

I just... feel like there has to be something we're missing.

To make them fear us we would have to be powerful, and strict, and likely worse than they are. Is that what you wish? My father kept peace in the kingdom for twenty years by ruling with an iron fist. I do not know that I have it in me to make his decisions, though Priscilla and Kuchiki may.

The only other option is compromise. And I would never be able to choke down treating with someone like Lestrange.
