[Teresa is looking unusually solemn for once, and she's standing against an ivy-covered wall. In the hand that isn't holding her Forge, she's leaning her sword against her shoulder.]

This morning I was accused of murdering a woman I had never met.

...I didn't think you'd killed them, Teresa.

Of course not. But I thought it best to clear up any potential misunderstandings before they happen, with all the rumors going around lately.

Then again the rumors about us never stop, do they?

[Scorched, Claymores... people like Priscilla and Teresa - either way, it's not inaccurate.]

No, I guess they don't. That kind of thing doesn't change no matter where we go.

...you're looking for the girl?

It's a pity, isn't it? We can't even make a dent in our own legacies.

...Of course. I said I was.

Now you can't fully fault 'em, can you? There's been some real troublemakers in our midst.

Fault them? No, I expect it. Humans will find troublemakers in any group, regardless of whether they're there or not.

[That vague smile, though, keeps her from sounding disdainful - more amused, maybe.]

Seems like it'd be hard to find what ain't really there. Maybe it's just that all humans are naturally troublemakers.

That would hardly surprise me. They're always getting themselves into one mess or another. It can make them troublesome to protect.

That doesn't seem right, to just accuse people of something like that. Isn't there...there has to be something like proof, right? Like in those crime shows on TV.

[And cue the look of confusion.]

Hm?

I don't know what you mean by tee vee, but in my experience people aren't always very forgiving when pointing fingers.

Proof tends to be sought only in the absence of convenience.

Well that's...that's not right! You need proof, or evidence, that someone did something before you accuse them of it!

Like...innocent until proven guilty!

I can't say I really mind the accusations, to be honest. I've heard worse. When people are frightened, they find the nearest scapegoat available, even if it's just a child.

[But she's smiling, although it hardens a little at that last part.]

Let them be frightened. It may be all they have for now.

Is there reason to believe you would be involved?

Apart from being one of the Scorched? Not that I'm aware of. I have no interest in pointless slaughter.

Not all Scorched feel the need to broadcast their innocence.

Yes, that's true. I noticed nobody else has. You, for example.
