I was in downtown Silver Spring tonight, celebrating
efbq's recent birthday and the birthday of another good friend of mine from the Green Party. We left the restaurant about 10:15 pm and headed back to where we'd parked the car on Ellsworth, when we ran into an extreme police presence, presaged by the cop cars which had been whizzing by the window all dinner long, and hundreds of people in the streets at Fenton & Ellsworth; we got to witness an arrest in the middle of the blocked-off intersection. We did a bit of digging on getting home: what we saw was apparently the aftermath of fights and rioting that happened during - wait for it - a youth-organized "Stop the Violence" concert.
More news later. Much later, in fact, since there was nary a camera or reporter in sight, and no one is carrying the story except for some blogs. (Tell us again, O you dinosaurs of the MSM, how the "new media" doesn't report "real" news.)
