So, I know that there are hardcore fans of the Warhammer 40K minis game, and I know many of those people will swear that it's the greatest minis game for it's vast universe and it's massive support. I've never enjoyed it myself, as it's just not my kind of setting and I just could never get behind the massive amount of rules dictating every aspect

So what does this mean? I'm not sure if I understand the article right, but it appears they are saying that this will be the last Warhammer rulebook, and they will now be focusing on the novels?

This means that Talisman (the new edition of the board game), the Warhammer Fantasy RPG, and Warhammer 40K RPG will now end so they can be a cut-rate publisher of official fanfiction and art instead of acually making games.

The minis games are both directly controlled by Games Workshop, who also just announced the discontinuation of Bitz ordering on a per-part basis. Now you must buy in bulk lots and "kits". This, of course, is a major difficulty for those that want those single parts for conversions and special projects.

That's kind of stupid. I mean, aren't the gaming materials outselling the literature? They're basically doing away with their big moneymaking product in favor of producing this cut-rate byproduct of their franchise. It'd be like if McDonalds stopped making food to focus on producing those little happy meal toys.

How long do you think this is going to last, in all honesty? I think it's only a matter of time before someone picks up Warhammer again. They're pretty much ending it at the height of its popularity.

Since Black Industries was a direct holding of Games Workshop, and this isn't the discarding of a liscense, there's nothing to pick up. The minis games will continue, and GWS will pricegouge the hell out of it because they beleive their fans will do it just because they tell them to. But the RPGs? Too much work, and that has to be balanced! They can't make enough money on a balanced game.

Yeah, I know they've still got the liscense. What I'm saying is, maybe the company will come back to it later, perhaps when they get more sensable management?

I'll admit that I find the Warhammer universe pretty interesting, but could never produce the budget for my own army, nor could I probably find the time to give the miniatures the care they deserve. I do intend to look into the 40k rpg sometime; not really interested in the Fantasy 'verse. Sounds too much like DnD.

While I don't play Warhammer, I have plenty of friendw who do. Sensible management and Games Workshop are two mutually exclusive terms.

I am definitely enjoying the hysterics about this over on RPG.net. I think the only thing tht could have caused more of an upraor is if a White Wolf staffer came out and said "Exalted is for retards!!!11!!11One"
