I sent an email to my pastor about the Christian Single things that've been going around in my head, and was surprised by his disconcertingly accurate perspective on it in his reply.  My first thought was, "Am I that obvious?"  The second was, "He's a pastor.  It's sort of his job to understand people."  He wants to quote me in a sermon, though.  ( Read more... )

The grandmother of a friend of mine told her that she was worried she wasn't engaged, and offered to pay for her to dye her hair blonde....

The friend was twenty at the time.

Alas, yes. I tried telling her that my mother would have been panicking if I wasengaged at twenty, but while it made her laugh, I don't think it helped in the dealing with the grandmother stakes....

How do people cope without supportive families?

Dude, for real. I love that I married into a family that "adopts" people right and left. My brother recently posited that a total stranger could walk into the Anderson house and sit down and we'd probably feed him, let him watch tv with us, and chat with him all evening just assuming that he was friend of someone in the house.
