Passed on by tree_and_leaf, also seen on BoingBoing.net, I don't generally do these things, but as has been pointed out, it's only $2.  And Terry Pratchett.  Who is awesome.

Today, it was announced that Terry Pratchett has donated half a million pounds to Alzheimer's research. Hearing that, it occurred to me that if half a million of us all donated a pound to Alzheimer's research, we could match his donation and make it an even million.

So whaddaya say, guys? It's a pound. That's about 2 bucks US dollars, give or take a couple of (US) pennies. You can spare that much. Go here and make your donation. Tell them it's in honour of Terry Pratchett.

Let's do it!

In other news, we watched Stargate: The Ark of Truth.  Methinks the producers/directors are not quite used to the cinematic format yet.  The plot seemed to be made up of about five episodes' worth of ordinary Stargate plot, strung together and interlaced but not with a lot of art or deftness, so it roared along a little too hastily in some points, and dragging too much in others, and they totally skipped over the ethical considerations of the ark - an argument that they should have been able to get a lot out of, considering the controversial subject matter they've tackled in the past.  So it was all a bit clumsy.  With lots of moments where they seemed to be saying, "Lookee, all, we're doing a MOVIE!"  Though it was also new SG-1, which I can't help but love.  Hopefully Continuum will be better, if only because it will have Richard Dean Anderson in it.

ETA: There was one small touch I really really liked. When the ship goes through the Supergate, did any one else notice that they did a perfect homage to the movie when Spader-Daniel went through the gate the first time? The event horizon washed over them and then they were turned into streaming particles...

Want to post a really long thing about the wonderful tension between the fantastic and the mundane, but am feeling woozy at the moment and this chair is uncomfortable.  Darn it, but I want a laptop.  Only a couple more months before I've saved up the money.
