In Which I Wonder What Is Wrong With The U.S. (But Think I Know)
So, as people might have known, I'm a bit annoyed that the sequels to The Golden Compass have been in danger of not being made due to lack of earnings in the U.S. After watching TGC online (illegally of course) I started really yearning for the sequels again. After seeing this, I can't imagine New Line passing up the chance to finish the trilogy:

The Golden Compass is, as of fairly recently, the 152nd highest grossing movie at the box office of all time. It made slightly more than Schindler's List overall (Far be it from me to make a quality comparison, but Schindler's List is a big deal movie! Guess it made more on DVD and video sales than most ever will, though...)
This of course is only worldwide box office, but even still. The U.S. is just about the only country uptight enough about religion not to realize that the His Dark Materials trilogy IS IN FACT FICTION. Remember, these are the same people who got their panties in a bunch over The Da Vinci Code and Harry Potter.
