Okay, so, there's been a bit of a snag with my classes... I'd originally (way back when) planned on taking Vibration Analysis, Heat Transfer, and Design 2 in Ireland. A few months ago I found out that UL only runs Vibration Analysis in the fall (when I'm not there) and Tufts only runs it in the spring. That means that I'll have to take it at the end of senior year, which isn't so bad except for the fact that it's a prerequisite for some classes.
There are these three classes that every engineer has to take one of, and two of them have Vibration Analysis as a prerequisite. That means that I'm going to HAVE to take the one that doesn't, which is another Thermo class, and I HATE Thermo :(
No choice on that one though, that's about all I can do.
Now the next piece of distress: Heat Transfer and Design 2 meet at EXACTLY the same time. One's a fourth year class and one's a third year class, so I guess they never planned for people taking both at once. Since I need Heat Transfer to be able to take that Thermo class that I HAVE to take, I can't take Design 2. But Design 2 is a prerequisite for Design 3, which (surprise) I also have to take.
Luckily my advisor said that Design 2 can be taken after Design 3... "it sucks, but it can be done" is exactly what he said. So at least I'm not in the hole yet.
There's another far lesser problem as well: I need two upper level engineering courses here. I've narrowed it down to Properties of Materials (which is cool and I don't mind taking) and then a choice between Optical Fibers and Biocompatibility. Biocompatibility seems more interesting to me, to be quite honest; I took a Biomechanics course freshman year, and despite being kinda gross, it's was very interesting stuff. But taking Biomechanics would wreck the friday I worked so hard to keep ending early to facilitate traveling on weekends. Optical Fibers doesn't do that, but it's not quite as interesting. I'm sure I'll enjoy it just the same, but I did get kind of into the idea of taking a bit more of the bio stuff...
Oh well. I have a rough schedule all sorted out at least. I get to take Traditional Irish Music and Geoscience, so I'm pretty happy about that, and I'm pretty sure I meet all my engineering requirements. Mechanical Engineering Major & Geology Minor, here I come :p Now all I have to do is write up petitions to the ME department to get them to accept those two upper level classes. I think I have to write why they're relevant to me, I'm pretty sure it's just so that they can see I'm not just taking it to fill a requirement.
