Title: Living Arrangements
Season: Lost Galaxy
Pairings: Kai/Leo and Maya/Kendrix, implied more than anything

AN: Set early days of the season, just after the get back from Mirinoi. Written for funhappyprfic and while I'm posting it might as well go here, too. ;)

“Okay, Kai,” Kendrix said, leaning over Kai’s shoulder. “Spill it.”

“Spill what?” was the expected answer, Kai not even looking up from his morpher to see what she wanted. She could appreciate the dedication and interest he was showing in this side project of hers - trying to figure out how their new morphers worked, or failing that just find out something about them - but it wasn’t nearly so endearing when he was being deliberately obtuse.

“You changed the rooming arrangements, didn’t you?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Yes, and she might actually believe that if she had only half a brain, or if she hadn’t known him for years; with neither of those being true, as well as a long-standing familiarity with Kai trying to avoid answering a question, Kendrix simply rested her chin on her friend’s shoulder, studying the results they’d gained so far, which weren’t many.

“Of course not,” she agreed easily. “There must be another reason my roommate’s from another planet instead of Katy Forbes from the science division.”

That startled him enough to look back her. “I thought you liked Maya,” he protested and she grinned at him, poking him lightly in the shoulder.

“I do.” A lot. “But that’s not the point, Kai.” Not that she was complaining about the new arrangement, not at all, but she was curious about how he’d managed it. “You hacked into the computer, didn’t you?”

His pained expression told her everything she needed to know and she grinned again, wrapping her arms around his shoulders in a quick hug. “Kendrix, please,” he protested. “Hacking is such a loaded word.”

“Whatever you want to call it, then,” she replied, conceding him that much. “So,” she continued, letting go of him and sitting back at her station and studying her own computer screen, keeping Kai’s results in mind to see if they added anything to the disappointingly small amount information they’d picked up so far, “how are you getting on with your new roommates?”

“Do you know neither of them can cook?” he demanded, stopping what he was doing to glare at her, as if it were entirely her fault. “Neither of them. Damon could burn water, and don’t laugh, Kendrix, I’m not joking. And don’t even get me started on Leo.”

Kendrix toyed with the frame of her glasses as Kai ranted, secure in the knowledge that her arm would hide the smile on her face. She wondered if Kai was entirely aware of just how often Leo’s name came out of his mouth, then decided he wasn’t. If he was aware of it, he’d stop doing it, so it would probably be a good idea not to mention it. At least not yet. “You’ll just have to teach them, then, won’t you?” she said lightly. It wouldn’t hurt, giving the boys something to bond over other than fighting off the monsters Scorpius kept sending and Kai was a patient teacher when he wanted to be, although the ‘when he wanted to be’ part of that could be highly dependent on who he happened to be teaching.

She had a feeling Leo in particular wouldn’t make it easy.
