BSG Fandom Ramblings
A couple of random fandom thoughts
1. You know what really makes me laugh the idea that Kara is such a horrible abusive bitch to Sam she belongs with Lee because he is her "equal". Yeah that's right, telling someone your not ready for a relationship is abuse but punching someone in the teeth is perfectly acceptable behaviour between equals. Its just such a massive logic fail it makes me laugh. Especially these people who are so gosh darn concerned about poor Sammy but are slamming Katee for daring to disagree with their point of view.
2. Can someone please explain to me what exactly is like able about Lee besides Jamie's overdeveloped muscles? Cuz I don't see it, maybe its just me but I hate it when grown ups continually blame other for their problems. Everyone is always so mean to poor little Lee but really about half of that is usually his own shit. So Adama wasn't the world's greatest dad well guess what he didn't beat you, he didn't drink away the family rent money grow up and get over it. So Starbuck likes Anders better so what other people get dumped it doesn't give you the right to shit all over Dee. I know I've said this before but it seems like Lee gets less and less redeemable with every rewatch.
3. You know people keep saying TPTB don't like Lee and I actually agree with them. I don't think it was an grand conspiracy I just think it was that Ron never really did have a clear picture of what to do with the character and Jamie Bamber was somewhat limited as an actor so they ran out of ideas with Lee. Its not even that Bamber was bad, he is just very much a classic British stage actor and that doesn't play well next to EJO or Katee and it doesn't quite fit the raw edgy style of BSG. The funny thing is Bamber is eaxactly the type RDM was used to dealing with on Star Trek (and in fact he would have been brilliant on any of those shows) but on BSG it makes him stand out too much. I think RDM just got frustrated with the character and with so many other threads to tie together he got forgotten during the push to the finale.
ETA: You know what shippy rational I hate (although this is general BSG isn't the only fandom that does this) the "they love each other so much it scares them so that's why their not together". It's just such bullshit it doesn't make sense on any level and would never actually happen in real life.
I know this is a little punchy and ranty but I'm not in the greatest mood right now, cuz my family has decided to collectively go nuts over the weekend.
