Lana: ((I will kill you))
Miles: [[I didn't even do anything!]]
Miles: [[D:]]
Ema: (( *3* I want my first kiss to be with a guy like YOU Mr. Edgeworth~ ))
Lana: ((gonna go get my forgin' knife))
Miles: [[Oh God. D:]]

Lana: *It is April 23 in the year 2015 - Bring Your Daughter to Work Day, and for the first time in the history of the office this is being fulfilled by the LA Prosecutors. Lana enters the building with her sister in tow, her mouth set as she takes in the comings and goings of her subordinates* Thank you for coming, Ema. I know it's irregular.

Ema: *The girl looks up to her sister, frowning, before cracking a small grin.* Don’t be like that Lana, I’m happy to be here. It’s uhm... pretty cool that you could bring me. Since we’re, you know, sisters... *She talks quickly, eagerly. Hoping that maybe a tiny bit of her enthusiasm would rub off on the woman.*

Lana: Well... I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, then. *look sideways at her sister and smiles - it's genuine, which is getting fairly rare* You mentioned wanting to see a bit of the office and I figured this would be a good way.

Ema: *Ema positively beams up at the woman, and swings her arms at her sides happily as they walk.* It is! It’s really exciting!

Miles: *Miles Edgeworth, signing in at the counter, hears the unfamiliar excited voice and turns his head with a slightly irritated look on his face. When he sees Lana, his expression becomes impassive and he turns half-lidded eyes to look at Ema for a moment.* Good morning, Miss Skye. *With a half-bow.*

Lana: *Her eyes caught Edgeworth before his caught her - and the look he had on his face at Ema's excitement did not escape her. This does not reflect in her voice or her expression, however* Good morning, Edgeworth. I trust you are well. *looks down at Ema and smiles* Ema, this is Miles Edgeworth, one of the most decorated prosecutors in the office. *back to Edgeworth* Edgeworth, this is my sister, Ema.

Ema: *Ema stares up at the man, her smile suddenly turning goofy.* H-Hello Mr. Edgeworth, nice to meet you! *She fiddles with the strap of her purse, nonchalantly shifting closer to the man.* W-Wow! That’s a reaaally interesting outfit you have on, sir. Do all prosecutors normally dress like that? They should! It looks good!

Miles: It's my pleasure, Ema Skye. *He responds, and at her comment he blinks quizzically, sliding his thumb under his lapel and looking down at his suit.* It's traditional for prosecutors to wear outfits like this in Germany, though not all of them do any longer. Thank you for your compliment. *He gives a brief, wan smile.* To what do we at the prosecutor's office owe this visit? *He directs the question at both of them, but glances at Lana for a moment.*

Lana: Today is "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day". *spends a brief moment looking around in a cursory way* I'm not actually sure how many of the prosecutors have daughters. Perhaps Payne brought Cryden...

Ema: *Ema still hasn't taken her eyes off of Edgeworth yet, and takes another step forward towards the man.* I like your… *She looks a bit lost for words for a moment, but her grin still doesn’t fade.* Frilly tie too, sir! I thought all ties were flat and straight, but that one looks neat all rumpled up. Have you seen some of Mr. Goodman's ties? They're all polka dotted, but I like yours.

Miles: *At this point Edgeworth straightens and he looks a bit taken aback and uncomfortable.* Uh, Detective Goodman? We've met, but... Oh, yes this is a cravat, like what he wears... A different style, but similar. Er. *To Lana* Bring your daughter to work? For what purpose...? To teach them?

Lana: *smirks slightly* The general idea is to expose them to career opportunities which they might find interesting, and since Ema is so interested in law enforcement and our office has frequent contact with the department, I thought it would be appropriate.

Ema: I’m going to be a scientific investigator, sir! So this is really good experience for me already~ *She chimes in, shuffling her feet.*

Miles: *He tilts his head and there's a tug at the corner of his mouth.* That's admirable. It's good to see a young person already aware of what they are going to do with their life.

Lana: *for the briefest of moments she actually beams in pride, but that is quickly gone* I have to agree with you. Are you headed up to your office, Edgeworth? We can take the elevator together.

Ema: *She finally tears her gaze from Edgeworth to flash a wide grin up at her sister.* Oh! Are your floors close to each other? You must be on one of the highest floors, huh Mr. Edgeworth?

Miles: *What color that is present on his pale face drains away.* My office is on the twelfth floor, but I habitually take the stairs...

Lana: *smiles brilliantly* I think your training regimen will survive one indiscretion, Edgeworth. *turns off and walks towards the elevator, as if that has decided the matter*

Ema: *Ema hangs close to Edgeworth’s side, playing idly with a stray lock of hair.* You really climb all those stairs, sir? Everyday? That’s pretty amazing!

Miles: *slides his briefcase off the counter with a vague nod.* Several times a day, actually. *With an air of complete and utter distraction, he follows Lana, his steps lacking their usual crispness.*

Lana: *comes to the elevator and presses the button to take them up, turning back to face her sister and Edgeworth while she waits* I trust the caseload you were assigned this week is not too much?

Ema: Ema seems oblivious to the change in Edgeworth’s demeanor, and stands beside Lana in the elevator. She clasps her hands behind her back, rocking back and fourth on her heels.*

Miles: *He walks up to the elevator, swallowing hard before he answers. His voice falls short of its normal volume and confidence.* No, not at all. I've dealt with much heavier caseloads. *Edgeworth pauses at the verge of the elevator, as if it's a physical barrier he has to overcome. In fact, he walks through it as if he's having some difficulty, and there's a faint hop in his step as he turns to face the doors. As they close, he closes his eyes, his entire body stiff.*

Lana: Very good. *presses the buttons to go to the twelfth and thirteenth floors, then looks to Ema* Edgeworth is the only prosecutor in the entire office who can take on three cases a week regularly. *the elevator then starts to move*

Ema: Really? Whoa! *The girl rocks onto the balls of her feet then, leaning towards Edgeworth.* You’re so cool, Mr. Edgeworth. I can't believe I've gotten to meet such a great prosecutor like you~

Miles: *Edgeworth's eyes remain closed, and he seems to be muttering something under his breath. He barely hears Lana, and then Ema's voice comes close to him. He's concentrating so hard at the moment that he can only manage a,* T-thanks. *A bead of sweat drips down his face, and his hands tremble on his briefcase.*

Lana: Yes. It's taken a lot of hard work to keep my position with Edgeworth in the office. Maybe you'll be able to work with him directly, Ema... *the elevator begins to slow as it reaches the fourth floor* Oh, dear. *the doors open and something like a dozen more people pile in, pressing the three to the far wall*

Ema: Oof-- *Ema fidgets a bit as more people crowd into the elevator, but her smile is unwavering as she watches Edgeworth.* Are you okay, sir? You’re frowning a lot-- oh! You must know then, it’s a scientific fact that frowning burns more calories then smiling! Are you trying to make up for not climbing the stairs?

Miles: *Edgeworth is pressed up against the sideboards, and his eyes open for a moment as a crush of people crowds him. He glances at Ema and her statement is so ridiculous that he can't repress a faint smile for just a moment.* No. I-I think perhaps the reverse is true, at any rate. Smiling burns more calories than- *He's momentarily distracted by someone's elbow jabbing him.* Erk. Than frowning.

Lana: Mmm. I've heard frowns myself, Edgeworth - but we can look that up later. *the elevator is moving again, going up through each floor in sequence* Do you think it would be all right if I brought Ema down by your office later? I was planning to show her around a few prosecutors' work environments before taking her to the department.

Ema: It’s true though! I read it on a Snapple cap. *She fidgets, and twists to glance back at Lana when she speaks.* Oh, could we? I would love to see your office! *Ema claps her hands together with an enthusiastic gasp.* I bet it’s totally spotless, huh?

Miles: *Grimacing at the closeness of the people in the elevator,* I have no objections to that. And yes, I try to keep my workspace tidy. *The trauma of being in an elevator is now overwhelmed by the irritation from being in such a huge crush of bodies, thankfully or no.*

Lana: *sniffs once, loudly* Whosoever among you is not wearing deodorant, I suggest you reconsider your morning routine before you are embarrassed outside of the anonymity of an elevator. *at the tenth floor, the door opens and the other people pile out, never throwing a glance back at the three of them*

Ema: *Ema lets out a loud, relieved sound once the elevator clears out.* Eugh. That was gross. Good going though, Lana!

Miles: *Edgeworth sighs and steps away from the wall, giving a faint sound of acknowledgement to Lana and closing his eyes again.*

Lana: Mmm. It is not befitting for someone in our office to fail to properly take care of themselves. *after another few seconds the elevator stops on the twelfth floor* This is your stop, Edgeworth. Ema and I will be by your office later - we will do our best to not interrupt anything.

Ema: *Ema wiggles her fingers at the man, grinning from ear to ear once more.* See you later Mr. Edgeworth~~!

Miles: *He nods shakily and steps out of the elevator a bit too quickly, turning and giving a nod in turn to both Lana and Ema.* It's no problem at all. *As the doors slide closed he lets out a pained sigh and leans on the wall for a few seconds. Then he wipes the sweat from his face and walks into his office, his steps more vigorous now.*

Lana: *watches Edgeworth step out with a small smirk, then looks to Ema* He really is the best, you know. If you want to learn about prosecuting from someone else, he'd be the one.

Ema: *Ema lets out a dreamy sigh, and leans back against the elevator wall.* Oooh... he seems so totally confident, too! I can't wait to see him again later! I bet his office is way big too, right? Not like what your's is, but close? Aaah, what a cool guy!

Lana: Yes... it's close to the same size. *smiles, stepping out as the elevator opens* After we meet with him again, I'll take you down to the department. I already set up a tour for you: you'll be meeting with a few members of the crime scene investigation team.

Ema: That's great! *She leans in, giving the woman a tight hug.* Thanks for bringing me with you today, Lana. And, oh! Do you think Mr. Edgeworth has to go down to the department later too? Or do all the detectives come here to you guys?

Lana: *puts an arm around her sister, walking her towards the office* Mostly the detectives come to us - and Mr. Edgeworth is not the kind of person to run to someone else when he needs them; he does it the other way around. Still...there's a chance we might see him, yes.

Ema: *Ema happily wraps an arm around her sister as well, leaning against her as they walk.* I’d love to see how you both act down at the station. You’re both so confident! It’s really cool, Lana. *She flashes a bright, eager smile up at the woman.*

Lana: I'm glad you think so. Come on, I'll show you some of the more interesting cases I've had to work with...
