A Lazy Digest of Life As I Know It
The weather went from scorching to...Irish.
So, in bulleted form, what is up with me.
* I have a three month teaching job! Honors, college prep (both sophomore level) and journalism. Lord knows what I will do with journalism. If anyone happened to study either The Crucible or The Pearl and liked anything your teacher did, I am an avid robber. Seriously, when I sub, I steal worksheets. This is how pathetic I am. <3
* I went to a concerto with yatsuka. Some 14 year old played the demon Liszt better than I will ever be able to play piano, even if I practiced for a million billion years. Then I came back and played "Pathetique" pathetically. Also, note to concerto performers, don't wear dresses that look like disco balls...it distracts from the beautiful beautiful music and makes a pronounced headache all the worse. No love (except for your exceptional Liszt, I loved that), me.
* THANK YOU faithinramen FOR RECOMMENDING ME I am the Messenger BY ZUSAK. IT WAS AWESOME. (Reminded me of Catcher in the Rye meets Italo Calvino with a dash of...I dunno). EVERYONE ELSE READ IT TOO.
* milieva SENT ME A CAT NAMED BINGLEY. AND EVERLASTING BUBBLE WRAP. I NEEDED TO SHARE WITH THE INTERNETZ HOW AWESOME SHE IS.
* Note to self: When you're the only white person to show up at the Vietnamese American center's book signing, it really confuses people. Especially the authors who are signing. To the extent that they both misspell your name even when you spell it for them.
* Still working on the epic FMP! fic. I finished the last book in the series and was not disappointed. Also, Al is the best robot ever. True fax.
* For some reason I've gotten into crafting again. I made a candy corn family (prompting my best friend to make all sorts of quips about whether I was expressing some unconscious, Freudian desire). One day(!) I will post pictures of them, as they turned out rather cute. I also made a fall wreath.
* If you love Japanese light novels and good, character driven stories, read The Twelve Kingdoms series. Currently there are 4 books translated and they are awesome.
* Concerts attended since last I talked with you all: Mary Chapin Carpenter with Shawn Colvin (awesome), Styx (yes, you read correctly!), and Phantom of the Opera (the Phantom was less brooding and more whiney and emo. I actually laughed at the climactic scene wherein he confessed his love to Christine. Them my mother laughed when I told her there was a sequel...set on Coney Island...). I almost went to the Swell Season concert where a man commit suicide during the performance. Thank the Lord my friend who I drag with me for such things was busy that night.
* OURAN! OURAN IS DONE AND AWESOME AND EPIC AND WHY OH WHY DID YOU GIVE ME SUCH A PERFECT JUMPING OFF POINT FOR AN EPIC FIC I HAVE IN MY HEAD!!! /moe fangirl Renge mode. Also, someone recently dubbed me the Tamaki of our friend group. I felt honored. In short, only Hatori could make something that I would normally cringe at so charming and awesome and workable and oh so ready for a sequel (please? Pretty please with a cherry on top???). Also, I love the reaction that the girls have to Haruhi's revelation (I hope this is vague enough...). WHO WILL SQUEE WITH ME AND GIVE ME THINKY THOUGHTS OF DISCUSSION???
