goodbye longhorns, hello Narvik!

My parents sold the last of their cattle today. They are very glad, and I'm glad for their new freedom. I feel a bit wistful too - no more longhorns in the backyard so beautiful and colourful and peaceful. :-( I feel a wave of farm-related nostalgia washing over me - I miss my old mare, the dog, my cow - all long gone. End of an era, I was five(ish) when they brought the first animals up from Washington, Barb and I stayed with Grandma at the lake in Vernon. Anyway, no more longhorns is another event to add to my 30th year milestone.

In other news my norwegian language pack arrived in the mail today, so I'm digging in and learning it. 1 month to go before we visit! I'm so stoked. So far (p. 12) it seems super easy, very similar to english and verb conjugation is refreshingly minimal. Mum and Dad booked their tickets yesterday from Canada to the UK so I'll book the flights to Oslo and Narvik today. Hello arctic circle, land of my forebjorns!

I will also call about hotel for Berlin too Sarah, I haven't forgotton. I haven't heard from them yet, so I'll get onto the phone wish me luck. I had a nightmare last night that we couldn't find a place due to the world cup, I found a place that seemed nice but I couldn't get a room near enough to the loo for you! I was very concerned about loo proximity. :-)

Ewen is going to Swansea for work next week to act as an internal consultant on customer service system development. I wish he had a mobile phone so I could text him, but I think we'll probably be going cold turkey. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! (for me anyway)

longhorns, swansea, norway, berlin
