TL;DR METAL: Pt 1 - DOOM
I love metal. C: It's special to me. And I figured if I was going to journal about how extensive it can really be, I should start at the beginning: Doom metal.
What's the first thing you think of when you think of "metal"? Metallica? Nonsense screaming? Blistering guitar solos?
Well. Kind of. No.
Think back to how it started!
That is doom metal. The purest form of metal.
Not this shit.
If it was up to me, power metal wouldn't be considered metal. But that's a different rant...
Doom metal is amazing, obviously. There is also many sub-sub-genres (metal being the genre, doom the sub genre, etc...), including but not limited to:
Funeral doom
Stoner doom
Drone doom
Death doom
to name a few.
note: I am only talking about bands I really, really like. Not every band I've listened to, nor the pioneers of the genre.
I enjoy:
~Fall of the Idols
The Womb of the Earth is p.much an amazing album.
~Jex Thoth
NOT EVEN GOING TO LIE, ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BANDS EVER.
It takes a LOT for me to enjoy female singers. Takarazuka and Seramyu not included.
But really, women in metal makes me shifty eyed and half the time it's a gimmick and her voice doesn't go well with the music and augh it's usually symphonic gothic operatic bullshit junk that doesn't belong in metal.
But JEX.

Don't care what anyone else says, hers is the best female voice IN THE HISTORY OF METAL. That's how good she is.

I first checked out their album Snailking and it was some damn heavy stuff that sounded great.
And then their most recent release, Eve is just about one of the best damn doom metal albums to be recorded.
I mean, AUGH.

And she plays guitar! :D
I would say this is their most well known song.
You really can't go wrong with a band that sings about Lovecraftian themes.

Oh, Sunn. Where to start? Well first off you don't say "O)))", it's just a part of their logo made to personify the image of their sound waves.
I remember being so perplexed when I first heard the term "drone" doom metal. I couldn't imagine what it sounded like.
And, of course, it sounds amazing.
But perhaps an acquired taste lol.
Although perhaps this is easier to listen to.
A collaborative album they did with Boris durr one of the best, most influential band in the world to come out of Japan, what do you mean you haven't heard of them
An oudated description of their album Dømkirke:
"Last year Sunn O))) was invited to perform at a ancient cathedral in Bergen, Norway. The performance was captured via 24 track mobile recording and the results were pressed onto double 180 gram vinyl. This recording will be available exclusively on vinyl only. The O))) line-up for this performance includes Attila Csihar (Mayhem) on Gregorian chanting vocals, Steve Moore (Earth, Ascend) on the church's legendary pipe organ and Norwegian native Lasse Marhaug on electronics."
