another sci-fi sermon topic

One of the things I love most about science fiction and fantasy is that it allows us to really understand what it would be like to view the universe with different beliefs.

In star wars, the Force is a suggested alternate idea of God to that of Monotheistic traditions.

In star trek, trills, such as jadezea dax, suggests reincarnation.

Granted, faith is much easier when you see Yoda perform a miracle or when Dax's symbiant changes hosts by undergoing surgery.  But that's just a way of recreating those other ideas within the belief structure of reason and science.  Is reason the right word?  I dunno... what ever it was near the end of the Enlightenment period that made religion start to seem utterly obsurd to so many intellectuals.

science fiction, religion
