Last night I finally got around to watching Crash. I don't think it's a movie that you're meant to like, but it was...I guess it was decent. Congrats on making a racially-charged version of Magnolia.
I don't really think all that much about racism. For the most part, I'm content to live in a white world. I'm comfortable being the inconspicuous quasi-exotic outsider. It's nice feeling like a special snowflake and being able to distance yourself from society at will, but sort of blend in when necessary. I suppose it might be less self-centered to live in a more diverse city, but honestly I've been stereotyped more in those places than I am here. For all of its faults, at least SLC doesn't have personal ads littered with "asians only", "no blacks", "please be white", etc. That's not to say that I can't see the look flash across people's face "Oh...you're not...one of us." or "Oh my, that's an...interesting last name." But they hesitate long enough for me to make a judgment and a decision. I guess it really is all about power after all.
