If you would have asked me twenty years ago if I would be going to Japanese immersion camp (Mori No Ike) to teach taiko drumming, I would have looked at you like you were nuts. If you would have asked me ten years ago, I might have thought about it, but decided that the roadblocks would have been too high. Five years ago I might have, but would have not been very confident in front of high school students.
Genki des!
Unlike Princeton in "Avenue Q" I feel like I'm finding my purpose. I also feel that I could not have done this had I not chosen to have children as early as I did, so I could learn through them how to be a good advocate for them, and increase my confidence in teaching others.
My classes were all great. There were about 10 students and two adults in each group. Everyone learned the entire A section of "Matsuri" and successfully performed it. There were cheers and smiles all around, even from the group that got lost hiking the hour before. (Ask Beatlegirl for that story, it was her hiking group.)
Driving home today from Bemidji. Here's hoping the roads are better than they were when we left on Thursday.
