A bit of good, at least encouraging news...

Mom said she got a call from the Art Institute of Atlanta congratulating me on my ACT scores, and if I remember correctly, asking if I'd come up for a tour. Or maybe my mom asked about that. I don't quite know. I have a bad memory. But I'm taking the SAT again on December 6th (day before my birthday) and this time I'm studying for it.

I went to the Savannah College of Art & Design presentation last night downtown at the Columbus Wyndham with Brittany, Kristian, and Heather. I liked it a lot. One of the representatives reviewed the few things I had in my shoddily made "portfolio." Basically, she said I was "having fun with color" and she liked the fact that I had a variety of media and subjects. In particular, she liked the watercolor with lines landscape, the railroad stippling, and the sketch of Jon Stewart. However, she told me that if I submit a portfolio for college, I not have it consist entirely of referenced work or artwork drawn from photos (I would never do this anyway, but it still worried me). My best work is done from photographs and other artwork. The reason I use other artwork for reference material is to help me out when working with unfamiliar subjects or media. Right now I'm mad at myself because I forgot to show her the T-shirt design I made. The lady was very friendly and helpful though. I appreciated it a lot.

The presentation was great. They showed the usual short video of their campus, which I liked. Then the other representative talked and gave out information. Some of the things I remember from the discussion were:

-No classes on Fridays.
-Earliest classes of the day are at 9 AM.
-Xmas Break begins before Thanksgiving and lasts until a bit after New Year's.
-Transportation available throughout the campus and parts of the city.
-Only one year of core classes.
-Tuition for one year is approx. $19,000. =(
-There's a major or at least a minor in just about any department of art that you can think of.
-They offer a major in sequential art (comics). They also said that SCAD is one of two colleges in the country that offers it as a major. This is one of the main reasons I want to go there, since I'm becoming increasingly interested in comics.
-Small classes...she said 20 people is usually the max.
-Room & board is approx. $5,000.

Hmmm...well, I'm getting HOPE for sure, but the bastards will most likely cut down on what HOPE covers, so that sucks. Right now I think it covers $3,000 of expenses. There's also a $3,000 academic scholarship available to those who score a 27 or higher on the ACT, or 1220 or higher on the SAT. Right now I only qualify for the $1,500 one, but if I can get my SAT score up 30 points then I qualify for the $3,000, so pray for me. lol.

SCAD is definitely where I want to go, but I would have to bust my arse big time. Guess I better start looking into scholarships. Not to mention drawing from life more...
