1.1. Surprising News
It was already late at night when Spencer's door bell rang. He went to open the door to his loft. "Grandpa![
1]" He yelled in astonishment.
The old man was out of breath. "Spencer," he stammered, all excited. "Is Carly still awake?"
Spencer nodded.
Fortunately, Carly had already been wakened by the mayhem caused when Spencer had stumbled into his sculptures, crashing them left and right.
"Carly!" Grandpa squealed. "You won't believe it, Carly." He breathed deeply. "I've found your mother."
Carly looked at Spener, all disturbed. She hadn't heard about her mother for over ten long years.
Spencer hugged Carly tightly. "You will always be my sister, whatever your mom may be."
Grandpa explained how they had found her. Carly's mother and her husband, Mr. Brooks, had recently moved to England. They were friends with the American ambassador, as was Carly's and Spencer's dad. The embassy had no problems identifying them. "Carly, this means that you might have to move in with your mother, according to an old agreement back when you've been born."
Carly didn't want to leave her brother.
Spencer assured Carly to follow her.
"To London?" Carly sighed. "You won't get a permit!"
Grandpa calmed them down. Even Dustin and Zoey, the kids of Mr. Brooks from his first marriage, had not been forced to move to London. They wenty to some boarding school in California. Zoey was a bit older than Carly and close to graduating from high school, while Dustin was at junior high. And mom was expected to return to the USA, probably Los Angeles, in just a few weeks.
Carly was totally dismayed when she heard about having step-siblings. "Boys in my age are so icky! Think of Gibby!" Carly was close to puking.
Spencer comforted her."Not all of them are. Of course, I promise to follow you to Los Angeles. Just leave it all to me!"
Carly smiled, but the hardest task was still in front of her.
1.2. Spreading The News
Freddie and Sam were utterly dismayed when they heard about Carly going to leave for Los Angeles.
"Why, oh why?" Freddie pondered. He feared he would soon have to give up on Carly, for Southern Californian boys were all so well-tanned and charming.
Sam knew that without Carly, there wouldn't be anyone to save her butt whenever she did something obnoxious to Mrs. Briggs[
2] or to Mr.Howard [
3].
Carly promised to visit Freddie and Sam during the next vacations. "Just leave it up to me!"But what could she do in order to prevent the bickering frenemies from killing each other? Carly felt her heart slump down to her knees and way below. She feared to come back and see her friends lying in pieces instead of living in peace. This could not be any good.
Freddie and Sam promised to leave each other alive, but they were never to be trusted as such a prospect would have been against their very nature.
1.3. Dismay for the Brooks
It wasn't much better for Dustin and Zoey Brooks who complained a lot about new relatives moving in.
When Zoey, also known as MsPerfect, heard about Spencer being a law school dropout, she was dismayed. Such a hobo would have an excessively bad influence on Dustin! She was totally overprotective of her little brother. And she imagined that Carly, being spoilt by an irresponsible elder brother as a guardian, would be an excessively loose and irresponsible lass. How could one let such a poor example of an adult leave the custody over a gullible young girl[
4]? She would try to bring Carly back to the path of virtue, but , in all probability, I would be too late, or so Zoey feared.
Dustin had often suffered from Zoey's overprotectivity,[
5], but often enough, he had needed Zoey to pull him out of the swamp [
6], and he sometimes missed her terribly[
7]. Now he felt that he would have to share Zoey's attention with Carly, something that could not go well. Whimpering piteously, he begged Zoey not to neglect him. Her promises notwithstanding, Dustin was very much worried.
Zoey couldn't bear the tension and called Grandpa Shay on the phone.
The old shark told Zoey that he often had had a similar impression of Spencer, and almost effected guardianship to be withdrawn from him. But in the last moment, Spencer had shown that he was actually able to care. [
8]. That notwithstanding, Grandpa understood Zoey's worries and was glad that Carly would get a responsible, uptight step-sister by her side.
Zoey promised to supervise Carly sternly. Grandpa just had to leave it all to her.

2.1. Arrival in LA
Spencer would not move to LA for a few more months, thus Carly had go go on her own. Her face was soaked with tears and sweat.
Mrs. Brooks tried to wipe her tears. "Carly, I haven't thought that it would be so hard for you."
"So why did you leave me alone in the first place?" Carly sobbed.
Mrs. Brooks sighed. "Your dad and I, we separated because I couldn't stand him being off for military missions all the time. And then I met Mr. Brooks."
Carly couldn't help keeping on sobbing.
2.2. Zoey and Carly
Carly went into her new room which she was going to share with her step-sister Zoey.
"Hi! So you're famous Carly?" Zoey greeted her.
"Er, yeah!" Carly tried to smile.
"Dustin used to watch your web show, it was yours, right?" Zoey inquired while she helped carly getting her belongings done.
Carly shivered. "Boys in my age are icky!"
Zoey shrugged. "Possible, but Dustin isn't always so. And he calls you very nice and sweet and pretty. If you try to keep on being as nice as he thinks you to be,he will do his best to get along with you, promised!"
Carly sighed. She hoped she would at least have a bit of peace at her new home. Somehow she felt flattered because she heard that there are viewers who deem her all nice and sweet and pretty. She just hoped that Dustin wouldn't be obnoxiously obsessive. She had met quite a few viewers in her life that were a real pain, such as Mandy Valdez [
9] , let alone miserable enviars like Valerie [
10]. Thus being a fan of her show was absolutely no guarantee for getting along, quite the contrary!
"Isn't your tech producer a boy?" Zoey wondered.
Carly explained that she had known Freddie since pre-teenage. If she hadn't, she would have probably hated him by now.
Zoey sighed deeply.
2.3. New Team For The Show
Carly was very nervous when she sat down for the first dinner in the house of the Brooks. She felt like an utter stranger in her mother's home.
Dustin's eyes bugged out. "Carly? You're that Carly?"
Zoey reanimated Dustin by shaking his head.
Carly sighed a bit in relief, knowing that Dustin was not starting to stalk on the straight way, as done by Mandy Valdez. "That's me!"
Dustin was proud to have a popular show host in his family. He thought he's be now considered a lot cooler by his mates. "When is your next show?"
Carly sighed deeply because she could npt continue without Freddie and Sam. "I'm lacking both a co-commentator and a tech producer. Freddie and Sam are too far."
Dustin had an idea. He looked at Zoey with puppy eyes.
Zoey knew what her little brother thought about, but she was hesitating. Finally she gave in. "OK, I'm going to ask Lola and Quinn "
Carly wondered who they were.
Zoey explained that they were her room-mates when she was living on campus. Lola Martinez was an aspiring Hollywood actress who was eagerly looking for occasions to get more publicity[
11]. Quinn Pensky was a freaky girl that made a lot of inventions in various fields. She was very versatile in technological stuff.
Carly vaguely remembered having heard about them."Quinn Pensky? That's Freddie's elementary school friend, she taught him using and repairing laptops. She left him a lot of the equipment she couldn't use any longer when she moved to California. And Lola Martinez, isn't that the supercute actress that portrayed the hot Victoria in Malcolm Reese[
12]'s Middle School Musical?"
Zoey was astonished that here roomies were already that famous. She promised Carly to persuade them into joining the new iCarly team.
Carly was anxiously looking forward to the restart of her web show.
2.4. Quinn and Lola
Zoey actually achieved persuading Quinn into the role as a tech producer of the new version of iCarly.
Lola, however, did not need any persuasion. "Yeah, I'm a co-contemplator!"
"Co-commentator![
13]" Carly corrected Lola.
Lola, whatever, picked what she could get, as long as it made her become more popular.
Quinn brought her own equipment into Zoey's and Carly's room. "Aw Freddie! I miss him a lot! And Sam? As in Sam Puckett?" Quinn sighed.
Carly chuckled. She announced that both Fredward and Samantha would come and visit Carly when Spencer moves down from Seattle to a small apartment in Orange County, half an hour from here.
Carly recognised most of them from Freddie's equipment set. She was glad to see the master in action.
Dustin wanted to be in the first webcast from Carly's new home, but, upon Zoey's persuasion, was finally content watching it on the laptop from the kitchen, as did Zoey and the parents.
2.5. New Webcast
Quinn counted down the seconds. "Online in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1"
"I'm Carly!"
"I'm Lola, and I like Carly's hair. But she should get a better shampoo. I recomment ..."
Carly rolled on the floor laughing.
Quinn had a hard time getting Carly to stand up again.
"Phew. I'm new here in Malibu. I'm sorry that you had to miss me, but now I'm back, with a new team. You already know Lola. She is replacing Sam." Carly smiled. "On the otherhand, Freddie is replaced with Quinn."
Lola and Quinn smiled into the cam, the best possible way.
Quinn forgot that she was supposed to stand behind the cam, not in front of it, but could be corrected by Carly.
At the end of the show, Dustin and Quinn opened the viewers' entries in the splashface blog.
Dustin remarked that Lola was a great gain for the show. He was deemed cool for saving and improving the show.
Freddie and Sam congratulated them. Lola was simply the best co-contemplator ever.
Malcolm Reese was totally convinced. He wished that he could produce the show for the Pacific Broadcast Corporation.
Yet Zoey remained sceptical. All of the fuss went way over Carly's head. Such a fragile teenager could impossibly put up with all of it. And who was responsible for all the hype? Probably no other than Spencer Shay! Zoey knew that Spencer would arrive in LA in a few weeks, and that would wreak havoc. She had to protect Carly from Spencer's desastrous imnfluence, but how would she do that?
Quinn sighed. "I'm engaged to Malcolm's son Logan. But I truly and honestly hate him, he's the worst jerk of all! Alas, his dad has got the money I need for improving my technical equipment, and I want to be a movie engineer. Plus , his grandpa invented a lot of explosives for movie technology.[
14] So I have to continue feigning to love him. Even more now as I can't endanger your career!"
Carly tried to comfort Quinn, but it was hard. She didn't want to push Quinn into marrying the absolutely wrong guy.
Zoey agreed with Logan being an incredibly perverse jerk. She had never really approved of Quinn dating that spoilt brat. Now she had another reason to dissuade Carly.

3.1. Spencer Comes To California
Against all odds, Fredward and Samantha haven't killed each other all the weeks Carly had been gone to California.
Spencer achieved taking them safely to California.
Jake Crandle[
15], a school mate of Carly, couldn't be dissuaded from joining them. Carly had once had a crush on him, but she had been over that aberration.
The little group arrived at the house of the Brooks.
Zoey froze in shock when she saw Jake Crandle, as if she had already seen him.
Dustin had a similar feeling. He snuck behind Jake and rammed him to the ground, although he was a trifle smaller than the blond rake.
"What's up with you?" Carly asked her step-siblings.
"Their school is the PCA, right?" Jake asked, making Carly nod. "Little wonder, my identical twin brother James goes to this school."
Carly's eyes bugged out. Noone had known that Jake had a twin bro.
Jake had obviously had the intension to visit James Garrett, a former lover of Zoey. Nowadays Zoey hated that shallow rake. The presence of his twin brothers wouldn't be pleasant.
Freddie was happy seeing Quinn again after almost ten years of separation. How he could find her he didn't know, but, if possible, he would have grabbed Quinn and said good-bye to everyone else. But he knew from Carly's letters that Quinn was engaged with Logan Reese, and, failing the relationship, Carly's career was at a stake.
3.2. Showdown At The PCA
"That's a school?" Sam wondered as the PCA looked more like a Hollywood paradise.
Carly nodded. Then she saw James and Jake hugging. She had heard that their parents had separated early in their lives. Carly sighed.
They met Logan Reese. Carly had not yet met him too often on the campus. Logan forced himself into kissing Quinn.
Zoey looked closer. She saw how disgusted Quinn really was. Naïve watcher were easily fooled into believing Quinn being happy with him, but she had learnt well from star actress Lola Martinez how to feign a passionate kiss.
Along came Lola Martinez. She saw Jake and James standing there and was a bit confused. But then she talked to the new guy."So you really play the guitar?" Jake nodded. "I sing badly, though. Want to hear?"
Lola noticed that this handicap wasn't as important, as decent movie engineers could easily make up for it. She was of the opinion that Jake should apply for a rôle in College Musical, the next movie by Malcolm Reese. With the guitar he'd be the heartthrob of the female mature teenies.
Jake wondered whether three gifts were enough: Good looks, playing the guitar, and kissing.
Jake was a good kisser? Lola begged him to deliver her a proof of his abilities.
Jake pulled Lola convincingly into a long, lingering kiss. What a difference to the disgusting, corrupted kiss between Quinn and Logan! Jake was a hell of a kisser, and Lola knew of course to appreciate that. After provocating the masses into moaning, Jake and Lola disappeared behind closed doors.
Spencer was so far unimpressed. Nobody appeared interested in him talking about sculptures.
Freddie boiled in anger when he imaguined Quinn squandering her life to such an ignoble jerk like Logan Reese.
And Sam made fun of Freddie. Then she stumbled upon Firewire, the worst enemy of Quinn Pensky. He was playing with his self-made tamagochi. "What a dork!" Sam mumbled. Firewire screamed in dismay and fled.
"He's afraid of girls!"Logan laughed.
Sam didn't think it funny at all. She ran after Firewire and grabbed him.
"My tamagochi just died!" Firewire whimpered painfully.
Sam took a piece of curved wire and stuckit into one of the pet bot's slots. A few seconds later, the thing worked ahgain flawlessly.
3.3. Elder Sibling Conference
Finally, Zoey had the occasion to blame everything on Spencer, the one example-to-live-up-to for all irresponsible elder siblings. It took her five hours to talk about the problem of Carly looking for a career in an uncertain business. The disgusting thought of Quinn having to marry Logan in order to makie Carly's dreams come true didn't make it any easier.
Spencer sighed. Zoey's preachings were even a trifle harder than his grandpa's. That's how he had always imagined a buttoned-up shark that he had refused to become when deciding in favour of a career as a freelance sculpturist. And he still didn't understand why it was his fault, but he let Mrs. Perfect persuade him into feeling guilty.
"OK, You've convinced me, I'm going to get a real job and give up on my artistic aspirations!" Spencer announced after Zoey's sermon.
It's needless to say that Carly wasn't pleased at all about Spencer's decision. So many time had she come to know that an uptight Spencer was not only just not himself, but also a plain pain that she couldn't bear.[
16]
It made Dustin sad, too. He would have preferred Spencers's old style over Zoey's any time. He hugged Carly when he agreed with her judgement about Zoey having talked sense into Spencer, as she called that miserable deed. "Oops, sorry!" Dustin blushed deeply. Neither Carly nor Dustin were going to talk to Zoey for the next few weeks.
Zoey noticed more and more how much Carly and Dustin blushed in each other's presence. Shouldn't that have cried for a severe intervention?

4.1. Fessing Up
A few weeks later, Spencer stuffed his suitcase with all the things he would not neeed any longer. He showed his suitcases to Zoey.
"What is inside there?" Zoey asked Spencer.
Spencer dared her to open the suitcase and sighed ruefully. "Things of my chaotic past, I'll burn them and bury them forever." He sobbed.
Zoey opened one of the suitcases. "Socks ... socks ... socks ... socks ... socks ..."She started to swoon delightfully. She had never seen those multicoloured socks with neon light.
Spencer figured that Zoey's smile was blank triumphant sarcasm, the anticipation of seeing everything that had meant a lot to Spencer until recently gbursting into flames.
"I've designed fashionable tops and backpacks, I might design stuff like that, I'd just need Quinn's help for the illumination." Zoey announced.
Spencer stared in awe. He hadn't supposed Zoey to be a fashion designer.
"I'm torn between fashion school and law school. Which should I choose?" Zoey wondered. She liked both of them.
Spencer remembered when he had been at this point. "I'll be here for you when you need to decide!" he promised solemnly.
Zoey came to think of it. At least Dustin did blush with Carly. He didn't shamelessly make out as he had done back with Trisha Kirby[
17]. Sam's similarity with Trisha revived those embarassing moments inside Zoey. So, after all, Carly had no bad influence on Dustin. After all, she couldn't keep Dustin from girls forever, if they really had a two-sided crush, than better one that triggered embarassment than one of the shameless sort. In turn, Spencer's method might not have been all that bad? Zoey sighed.
"Maybe we should meet in the middle? Dustin and Carly might appreciate that." Spencer suggested carefully.
Zoey moved an inch closer to Spencer.
Like that?
"Or more like this?" Spencer moved an inch towards Zoey.
During the following minutes, the physical sistence between Spencer and Zoey shrank severely. Finally, they threw their arms around each other and cuddled.
Dustin and Carly bounded in, telling Zoey that dinner was ready. When they saw Spencer and Zoey in each other's arms, they decided to do the same.
Carly made another decision. "It would be unfair to Quinn if I accepted Malcolm's offer, pushing her into marrying Logan."
Dustin nodded in understandig.
Carly fetched her cellular phone and called Malcolm Reese. "Hello, this is Carly Shay..." She explained the weird situation until Malcolm.
Malcolm chuckled. "Logan? He's no longer my son. I had to disown him." He explained that Logan had shown irresponsible in his ways of dealing with the fortune of the family, abusing credit cards and cheques.[
18]
Dustin, Zoey, aSpencer, and Carly cheered enthusiastically.
Malcolm explained that he had found a new heir for the Reese empire. Fifteen years ago, he had had an affair with a woman from Seattle, a certain Marissa Benson. Now his shark heard from a colleague in Yakima/Washington the necessary informations to confirm his clues: Freddie Benson was the son of Malcolm Reese, and thus the legitimate heir to Malcolm's empire!
4.2. Conclusion
Now it was obvious whom Quinn Pensky would marry in a few years: Her first and only truye love, Fredward Benson.
Zoey decided to study law, but not in order to become a buttoned-up shark, but more of a legal adviser in the service of churches and other tax-excempted institutions. At the same time, she improved her skills in fashion design at Socko's fashion school.
Carly and Dustin, Spencer and Zoey would have a double wedding five years after.
Sam and Firewire would found a workshop for building and repairing small robots and rusty locks.
Lola Martinez and Jake Crandle made their first oscar in Malcolm's next movie, in front of the eyes of technical production assistants Quinn Pensky and Fredward Benson.
