1 Off to London
1.1
Vice Admiral Shay's submarine was going to be docked in Southern England, giving him a break from submarine trips. He had to spent that time in London's Headquarter of the US Marines, going through some administrational stuff. This was the perfect occasion for Carly and Shay who had been looking forwardto visiting their dad since he had been gone to Europe.
"Our plane will take off next Friday night, then we'll pass the night in LA from where we will take a plane to London," Carly told Fredward Benson and Samantha Shay.
"You can't be serious. Who will save me from Samantha Pukebucket while you're gone?" Freddie begged Carly, whimpering in dismay.
"I can't survive several weeks with Dorkward Freakson," Sam complained.
Freddie and Sam looked at each other, shuddering with disgust.
"Calm down! Just avoid each other when I'm gone, it's summer break, so you don't have to stumble upon eeach other on a daily base," Carly explained.
"I guess I'll hang out with Jonah and Gibby," Freddie suggested, sighing deeply.
"I should go shopping with Shannon and Valerie," Sam admitted.
"Spending their money? You sure don't have any," Freddie remarked.
1.2
"Spencer, how long do you need to get your luggage done? You've started six hours ago," Carly wondered.
"Sorry, I can't close that suitcase," Spencer sighed regretfully.
"Let me see ..." Carly stepped up to Spencer and tried to close his suitcase. "Socks, socks, socks, socks ... a whole suitcase full of socks?" Carly wondered.
"Yeah baby! It's Socko's latest summer collection. More flashy than ever." Spencer was all excited.
"Are you crazy? You don't need that many socks for two weeks!" Carly felt urged to yell. It hurt her, though.
1.3
Arriving in LA, a bus took Carly and Spencer to the section of the Airport that hosted the intercontinental flights. An attendant showed Carly and Spencer their way to their proper terminal.
"I've never been to such a huge airport," Carly confessed, making Spencer nod.
Arriving at their terminal, they found a pair of teenagers already waiting.
"Sorry, you're bound for London , too?" Carly asked one of them, an uptight blonde.
"Sure we do. My name is Zoey, and this is my little brother Dustin," the blonde answered.
"Hi, I'm Carly, and this is my big brother Spencer, we're from Seattle" Carly explained.
"Hi!" Dustin said. "Carly is really nice and pretty!" Dustin whispered into Zoey's ears. Then he sighed, because he feared that a girl like Carly probably already had a boyfriend and five other boys fighting each other over her.
Carly's cell rang. "Carly ... oh Freddie ... no, I may survive a few weeks without your face! ... please don't stretch it! ... seeya!"
"Fredward benson ..." Spencer explained, "he's our neighbour's boy for ten years. He has got an obsessive crush on Carly since he moved across the hall."
Dustin felt his fears confirmed.
"It's not that I don't like him," Carly explained, "Freddie is an OK friend, but I can't love him."
"Because you already have a boyfriend?" Dustin wanted to know.
Zoey poked Dustin in the ribbs. He should not be that curious. Dustin was known for going out of his way for any nice, pretty girl of his age, and this had lead him to being disappointed over and over. Zoey didn't want him to get his heart broken thrice a week.
"It's not that," Carly admitted, "Freddie is such a freak when it comes to technology, electronics, the internet and stuff. This is just not what I expect from life." Carly sighed.
"Sorry!" Dustin sighed as well.
"It's not your fault. I run a webcast, together with Freddie and Sam, who is my best female friend forever. Freddie does the technical production tasks, obviously , while Sam and I are moderating," Carly explained. "computers and stuff are part of our life, but I'm more into people than into machines," Carly stated. "A life with Freddie would ... bore me ... I'm sure."
"I've not seen your webcast." ashamed Dustin lowered his head.
"iCarlyDOTcom" Spencer said.
"It will restart in fall," Carly said. "you may submit some video , and we will show it."
"Aw cool! I have made some megacool shots last year ..." Dustin beamed.
"Attention! Attention! Flight #333 to London Heathrow. You may now board the plane from terminal #101," the speakers announced.
Carly, Spencer, Zoey, and Dustin moved towards the queue, ready to enter the mini-shuttle.
"Is this your first intercontinental flight?" Zoey asked Spencer who nodded solemnly. "I've been to London half a year ago. Whereas Dustin ..."
"Will I drown?" Dustin asked, trembling all over. He started to weep.
"I'll drown in your tears," Carly remarked. Then she wiped Dustin's cheeks with a handkerchief.
"I'm anxious as well," Carly admitted, showing her trembling hands.
"Cool, our seats are the same row!" Zoey remarked when they boarded the iBoeng machine.
1.4
The plane took off into the morning sky, and Spencer waved a last good-bye to the ground before it went out of sight.
"So what are you doing in England?" Carly asked Zoey.
"Our parents work in London, in the export-import sector," Zoey explained.
"Cool. Our dad is a marine officer, and he's currently docked. Usually he commands a submarine in the Nordic Sea. For this reason, Spencer has been assigned a guardian over me." Carly explained.
"We're living at a boarding school near LA, called the PCA, thus we don't need a guardian," Zoey stated, "I'll turn 18 in just a few months, maybe I'll assume guardianship over Dustin."
Dustin went pale.
"I considered sending Carly to a boarding school as well," Spencer admitted, "but I'd miss her too much, and she would miss Fredward and Samantha, and vice versa."
"I wouldn't mind Carly coming to the PCA," Dustin admitted, blushing slightly.
Zoey explained even more. "I'll also meet my boyfriend Chase in London, and then the three of us will continue to Maui."
"Maui?" Spencer wondered.
"It's a part of Hawai!" Carly explained, swooning. "as in sandy beaches, palms, endless sunshine, attractive men with perfect tan, hoola hoops, sarrongs, pineapples, ..."
Zoey nodded. "Our uncle runs a hotel over there, it's part of the Tipton chain, you know, Hotel Tipton in Boston, Massachusetts."
"So you've got a British boyfriend?" Carly wondered.
"Chase is an US-boy, he was at the PCA for several years, but when I left for London in order to be with my parents, he followed me secretly. Alas, I went back to California, all in a hurry. This left him stranded in England, all alone," Zoey explained.
1.5
Will Samantha and Fredward kill each other? What will Carly, Spencer, Dustin, and Zoey actually do in London? Will any heart be broken?
The following chapters will answer these questions.
2 Crowded River
2.1
London-Heathrow. The plane came down from the sky above London which was neither light nor dark, touching Good Old English ground. It was impossible to view either the sun by day or the stars by night. This was the city without sleep, there was neither peace nor deliverance.
At the airport, they bought prepaid phone cards for their substitute mobile telephones, so they could stay in contact without having to pay transcontinental fees.
Their parents were living in the same quarter of London, as did many Americans that worked in that metropole.
Carly and Spencer waved at Zoey and Dustin before they boarded the car sent by their father. Also the latter siblings were brought to their parents by some special car.
2.2
Zoey told Dustin in the car: "Dustin, I notice that Carly makes you blush a lot."
Dustin startled, expecting some moral preaching.
"See, it's perfectly OK, that such a nice and pretty thing like Carly makes a boy of your age feel all fluffy, I'd be rather worried about you if she didn't," Zoey explained, "but you shouldn't expect too much from her."
Dustin sighed thoroughly.
"I wouldn'y mind if she happened to like you, though." Zoey smiled. Dustin had had crushes on way worse girls.
2.3
"Carly! Spencer!" Mr. Shay yelled in excitement when his children arrived.
"Dad!" his kids went unisono.
"I hope your flight was nice. The other night, there will be a party at the US Embassy. You are invited, as well." Mr. Shay announced.
Carly and Shay envisioned an annoying evening in stiff cloth, with lots of old boring farters.
Back in Seattle, Fredward spent some terrible days with Jonah and Gibby. They were plain boring.
"Gibby," Jonah suggested, "why won't we have some exciting double-date night with Valerie and Shannon? I know that you deem Shannon incredibly hot."
2.4
Gibby blushed like a ripe tomato.
"And me?" Fredward pouted.
"Sorry, Freddie, unless you want to be our fifth wheel ..." Jonah replied, sighing.
Freddie was deeply disappointed, but he was so bored that he decided to join in, as superfluous as he would probably feel.
2.5
Carly, Spencer, and their dad entered the banquet hall. The young people were prepared to a bad night.
A few moments later, Spencer discovered something. "Look, Carly, aren't these Zoey and Dustin?"
Carly smiled. "Daddy, may we ..."
"You want to hang out with the other kids? Of course!" Mr. Shay replied, nodding solemnly.
Carly and Spencer went to Zoey and Dustin. There were also other teenagers, most of them students at the boarding school of Chase. Zoey and Dustin smiled when they recognised their new friends.
"Hi Zoey," Carly wondered curiously, "did you meet your fiance ... you know, that Chase guy?"
Zoey shrugged. "He should have come here. We've been appointed for like an hour ago. But ..."
Suddenly, a servant approached Zoey. "Miss Zoey Brooks? A message!"
"Zoey nodded when she received a letter on a silver platter."
Dustin was curious, as well.
"It's from Chase ..." Zoey announced while opening the envelope. "Dear Zoey," she started reading the letter, "I'm so sorry. I should have told you earlier. Whuile I was alone in London, feeling completely lost, and you were back in California, I met that wonderful girl. I didn't want it, it just happened. Michael always urged me to tell you, but I was too much of a coward. And two days ago, I've got to know that she's pregnant ... from me. Sorry. I really didn't know how to tell you, and I feel unable to see you face to face. Chase" Zoey couldn't bear this. She burst into tears and pain. Dustin supported her, preventing her from collapsing and slumping down to the ground.
How could chase do something like this? After four years and all the things they had gone through? May a guy ever be that cruel?
Dustin pulled his sister to a nearby couch, accomodating her carefully. He didn't want their parents to notice it immediately.
Carly and Spencer followed the Brooks siblings.
"Do you need something?" Spencer asked.
Dustin sent Spencer to the next butler, asking for a cup of water.
Carly wiped Zoey's tears.
An hour later, Zoey could stand again. Dustin explained everything to thier parents.
"And I've already planned everything for vacations on maui with Chase," Zoey sighed.
Dustin had an idea. "Can't we take Carly to Hawaii, instead? You'd have a room-mate and ..."
Zoey assumed correctly that there was a completely different reason why Dustin wanted Carly to accompany them to the pacific paradise. "I don't think Carly is up to this."
Dustin pouted noisily.
Mrs. Brooks wagered. "Why not ask her? A new friend would certainly help you get over it."
Zoey shrugged and decided to ask Carly. She wouldn't be a bad room-mate for hawaii, after all.
Carly beamed like a supernova. "Maui? Yeah, that'd be great. You understand that I have to ask Spencer and dad, don't you?"
Zoey nodded solemnly.
Carly asked Spencer and her father.
"Only if Spencer comes with you," Mr. Shay decided.
"Yeah! Hawaii!" Spencer started to feign a hoola dance, which was embarrassing.
Zoey's father concluded: "I'll have to ask my brother who runs the hotel, but I think it's OK if you're ready to share a room with Dustin."
"OK, " Spencer concluded, continuing his dance.
Zoey's uncle confirmed readily that there was no problem accomodating Spencer, and he wasn't even supposed to pay for anything but the plane tickets. This was no problem for the Shays, either.
2.6
Jonah and Valerie chose Seattle Premiere Theater for the double date.
The boys had waiting in the cinema when the girls arrived. To their surprise, not only Shannon and Valerie participated in this event. They brought a friend along with them.
"Pukebucket!" Freddie shouted in dismay.
"Dorkward!" Sama yelled back at him.
Samantha and Fredward accomodated by the same table as the two happy couples. They threw malicious glances at each other. They intensified when they noticed Shannon smooching with Gibby, and Jonah and Valerie practising French kissing.
Having pulled apart for a moment, Valerie had something important to announce. "Carly being away, I and Sam want to run the webcast. Until Carly is back."
"That's a fantastic idea!" Jonah yelled.
Shannon and Gibby smiled along.
"Too bad you won't have a technicl producer!" Freddie boomed.
"Freddie, listen. I'll be there as well. If you can support Sam while Carly is around, you will also survive her presence with Valerie's help and mine," Jonah beguiled Freddie.
Having pondered for some minute, Freddie sighed and agreed. It would be one or two webcasts only, anyways. Or so thought Freddie.
3 Beach of Hawaii
3.1
"5...4...3...2...1" Freddie counted down for the webcast.
"Hi, I'm Valerie!" Valerie screamed.
Sam continued: "I'm Sam! And this is still iCarly! Carly is on vacation, but will be back in a few. Our technical geek is still Dorkward."
Freddie eyed Sam angrily.
Jonah calmed him down.
Valerie and Sam presented the latest Mess-with-Lewbert clips. Somehow, they completed the webcast session.
Freddie sighed in relief, as it would be the only one without Carly. After the cast, he studied the viewers rections. "Wow, Carly and Spencer have watched!"
"Aw cool!" Sam replied, "What do they think?"
"Thanks to Valerie for being a good substitute! Now I may safely leave you alone for three more weeks. Spencer and I are going to spend some time in Hawaii, together with our new friends Zoey and Dustin. Lovely greetings, Carly and Spencer," Fredward read. Having finished, he staggered, reeled, gurgled, and slumped down onto the hard floor of the attic. The thought of more weeks with Sam and without Carly was going to kill him.
"I think he needs a kiss of life," Valerie noticed, "I 've eaten too much of the green dip. Sam, would you ..."
Sam shuddered in disgust, but they had no other choice.
When Freddie noticed who had just saved him, he passed out again.
3.2
After a tiring flight, Carly and her friends arrived in Honolulu. A ferry chartered by Zoey's uncle brought them to Maui. being tired, they brough their luggage straight to their rooms, and accomodated themselves in their beds.
"Carly, I'm really glad you joint us hereto. Spending the nights alone in a room I had been supposed to share with Chase would have killed me," Zoey confessed.
Carly nodded. "I've often enough dreamt of the beach of Hawaii, and it's great to get it almost for free. It's all fair to be a help for you." Carly smiled.
"Did you notice that you make Dustin blush a lot?" Zoey couldn't help poking into the topic that had been nagging her since their flight to London. "I'm sure you do that to many boys, but Dustin is my brother, so it's him about whom I'm worried."
"I did notice, for sure," Carly replied, sighing in relief because Zoey was ready to talk about it, "of course several boys lose their head over me. At least, Dustin is decent enough to feel embarrassed. I can tell you stories about boys , ..."
"I'm glad we can talk about it," Zoey continued, "Dustin wouldn't go and shamelessly grab or harrass a girl as certain jerks and dorks do. I just don't want him to get his heart broken."
Carly sighed, "It's the task of an elder sister to prepare her little brother for relationship problems, and you've been doing this perfectly."
Zoey smiled.
"I like Dustin for many reasons, and I would want to get to know him better," Carly admitted, "but how can I be sure when, after the vacations, we're going to be separated?"
"You could get to know him better while here on Hawaii," Zoey suggested, "I officially allow you to spend some hours just with him, no sex or intense making out or so, though!"
Carly smiled. "Thanks, your approval means a lot to me," she replied.
Carly and Zoey donned their beach clothes. They had been shopping in London, together with Zoey's mom. They decided to have brunch over by the veranda where they also met Dustin and Spencer. The brunch went smoothly.
"Do you like to come to the beach with me?" Dustin asked Carly.
Carly beamed brighter than the sun rising above them. "Sure!"
3.3
Down by the bay, Carly and Dustin walked side by side, talking about their lives, hobbies, and dreams. They had broad interest, thus inevitably a lot of them in common.
Spencer and Zoey still sat down by the veranda, watching Carly and Dustin strolling along the sandy beach. They kept sipping on their pineapple smoothies.
"They are pretty close!" Zoey remarked.
"I've never seen Carly having so much fun talking to the same boy for several hours," Spencer admitted.
"Do you think they are sort of a couple?" Zoey wondered.
"If it makes them happy ... that's all I want for Carly," Spencer emarked. "And down to you, Dustin shows more responsibility than I did before the age of twenty. When my mom passed away and dad went to the Atlantic Submarine Command, I had to care for Carly. It wasn't easy, but I love her above all."
"I want the same for Dustin because I love him as much as a big sister can. And I hope that they will know what they want by the end of the vacations," Zoey admitted, "for a sincere relationship may last through separation." Zoey sighed, down to her memories of Chase.
"It must hurt you to talk about this, so soon after your break-up." Spencer wagered.
"You and Carly and Dustin ... you are a great help for me, really," Zoey noted. "I don't want Dustin to repeat my mistakes. It'd knock me into oblivion seeing him suffer. They are only 14 and should not have to worry about relationship, but the experience with Chase taught me they are not too young to make severe mistakes." Zoey explained. "I still have one year left at my boarding school, then I'll move to UCLA Law School. I hoped to spend college time with Chase, but now I have to rethink. "
"Law school?" Spencer sighed. "I had been on my way to Law School, but dropped out early because my true inspiration told me to be a sculpture artist."
"Oh really?" Zoey was astonished. "I like arts, I've designed T-shirts and stuff like already back at middle school. But I'm too uptight for doing it professionally. I think I'd lose my inspiration if I did it for money."
Finally, Dustin and Carly returned.
"May we go and play beach ball with some kids we met down by the beach?" Dustin asked.
Zoey nodded, "But be back for supper!"
Dustin and Carly nodded before running off.
3.4
"Spencer wanted to dance to the hoola melody all day, and now he has been chatting with your sister since hours," Carly remarked.
"I wonder what they are talking about," Dustin whispered, "do you think your brother is too old for my sister?"
Carly was astonished, but then Dustin's thought sounded interesting. "Maybe for the time being, he is too old, but this is relative."
Dustin and Carly looked at each other, whistling innocently.
3.5
While Spencer and Carly worked on their tan, Sam and Freddie had the choice between being bored to death or bickering each other to death. Jonah and Valerie making out only stoked their discomfort.
"Do you think Carly leaves us alone just in order to torture us?" Freddie asked Sam.
Sam sighed in despair. "I guess she does."
For once, they seemed to agree.
Sam started to weep.
Without thinking, Freddie wrapped his arms around her.
4 Back to Seattle
4.1
The vacations on Maui had to come to an end. Zoey's heart was torn when she watched the sad lingering embrace of Dustin and Carly who were going to be separated for quite some time. At least Carly and Dustin were more honest to each other, from the very start, than Chase and Zoey had ever been. This filled Zoey's heart and mind with some relief. Their relationship was strong enough to endure the separation without making each other crazy.
Spencer had started thinking about finding a way to send Carly to Dustin's boarding school - not this year, but the next one. Ridgeway didn't offer the honours programs that Carly was wishing for, whereas Dustin's boarding school offered the broadest range of honours and AP classes throughout the USA, in collaboration with those big, renowned colleges from the Greater LA area. And there would be no Mrs. Briggs to torture her. But Sam and Freddie would go and kill each other without mercy, unless they had already done so.
4.2
Freddie sat down on a beanbag in Carly's apartment. He couldn't believe what had been going on. Had he actually hugged Sam? This must have been a nightmare, the worst ever. Carly could not have been that cruel, could she? She had been cruel enough to turn him down during the last ten years, but leaving him alone with Sam was so irresponsible ... but why did Sam's hugs not feel cruel at all? For devil's sake, they had to be all evil and painful! Everything Samantha said or did had been perceived by Fredward as a deliberate cruelty. She can't simply hug him and demonstrate that she felt a spark of compassion for him.
Samantha Puckett lay down on Carly's couch. Neither she nor Fredward had been able to talk to each other since Carly called from London, announcing her trip to Maui. Samantha had been feeling betrayed by Carly. And Fredward had had the guts to hug her. What an abuser! But why did Freddie's hug feel so good? He probably had tried to bring her down even more, rubbing salt into her wounds, but the hug definitely had not felt so.
Sneaking past Lewbert, Carly and Spencer had made their way back to their apartment's door. The key clicked within the lock, and the door swang open.
"Freddie? Sam?" Carly cried when she saw both of them, all silent and depressed.
Spencer disposed with the suitcases. Finally he could see the socks again that Carly had not allowed him to take to London and Hawaii.
"Hi Carly!" Fredward and Samantha greeted her, all lethargic and without moving from where they had been resting for hours.
"You haven't killed each other yet?" Carly pondered.
Samantha yawned.
"Oh my god, you're even way too depressed to do that," Carly concluded. "What happened?"
"Dorkward hugged me!" Samantha complained, full of disgust.
"Sam cuddled me back!" Fredward objected.
Freddie and Sam hugging? That couldn't have been true. They must have been pulling a prank on her, but they were unable to agree on a prank. Carly couldn't make any sense of it. She phoned Jonah, Valerie, Gibby, and Shannon who had no explanation at all to offer.
Spencer inserted a DVD with the pictures from their vacations. "That's Carly and Dustin after having won the beach ball tournament," he explained.
"Aw, how cute!" Fredward admitted. It was his first word he said since weeks with a smile on his face instead of agony. He even forgot about his long-term crush on Carly who had kept on frustrating him forever and one day.
Samantha swooned, but she was somehow sad. "No boy would ever cuddle me like that." No boy? It seems that Sam had forgotten someone that was sitting just a few yards away from her. "So ... Carly and Dustin are a real couple for now?" Sam asked.
"Don't rush it!" Carly objected. "We are happy we have found each other. But don't forget we're only fourteen!"
"You're never too young for true love," Spencer argued. "but one day you'll be too old, just like me, and whimper in despair because you've kept on missing your chances." Spencer sighed in utter resignation.
Sam snuck a bit closer to Freddie. "Dorkward, do you think it's too late for us?"
"Pukebucket!" Freddie replied, staring dreamily deep into her eyes. His words sounded all insulting, but did he mean it?
Spencer talked about Dustin's school. "Too bad Freddie and Sam would kill each other when ..."
Alas, Fredward and Samantha were not convinced of that anymore.
"Carly," Sam remarked, "if your heart is really with Dustin ... just give me and Freddork some time with each other." She looked somewhat lovingly at Fredward.
"I think if Pukebucket and I spent some more time without you, we might actually ..." Fredward stammered.
Carly and Spencer looked at each other, pondering the situation.
4.3
Down to Freddie's Skype installation, Dustin and Carly would be able to communicate frequently, convincing Freddie and Sam that Carly's place was with Dustin. They wouldn't need Carly in order to keep them from killing each other, quite the contrary was the case.
"I noticed that Dustin's sister and Spencer didn't look unhappy at all when they were standing side by side, cheering for you," Sam remarked,
"Too bad they are like ten years apart." Carly sighed.
"The current fiance of aunt Maggie is even a bit older," Samantha replied.
"The one with those fake breasts?" Fredward wondered, making Carly and Samantha snicker.
"Dustin pondered the same thing," Carly explained. "He'd really like his elder sister to find great happiness as soon as possible."
"So you should set up a sibling trap!" Samantha suggested.
Fredward agreed amd admired Samantha for her smart proposal.
Carly's eyes beamed like a stellar blast.
4.4
"We're online in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1" Freddie counted down.
"I'm Carly!"
"I'm Sam!"
"This is my first cast since my vacations. Valerie was great, but it's my show," Carly explained.
"Carly found some new friends, such as Dustin and Zoey," Sam announced, nudging Fedward who displayed a picture with Dustin and Zoey on the green screen.
"Dustin!" Carly squealed in delight, her face turning a shade of crimson. "My brother Spencer has been really inspired by those days on Maui, he has made a hole bunch of sculptures ..."
Spencer entered the stage, showing some sculptures with Hawaiian topics. "The one and only Zoey Brooks dancing Hoola!" Spencer announced. He tried to swing a hoola hoop around his hips, but he failed miserably. He slipped and ended up on his butt, causing Sam to trigger the artificial laughter.
4.5
The following year, Carly would move to Dustin's school. The two of them would be happy ever after.
In Carly's absence, Sam and Freddie would grow closer and closer.
The same would happen to Spencer and Zoey, with the help of Carly's and Dustin's subtle arrangements.
When Carly's grandpa died, he would do so in peace as Spencer would just have married freshly licensed lawyer Zoey.
The End
