Just why is it so difficult for authors of scientific works - papers, books, etc. - to indicate what their full given names are somewhere?

I was just looking at Frank Hahn's classic Money and Inflation, which has a foreword by the series editor, J. L. Ford, but nowhere in the book does it tell you what exactly J. L. stands for. You can google the ( Read more... )

Christopher Tolkien, the youngest son of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, died recently at the age of 95. To say that Christopher has been doing his father's works an invaluable service would be an understatement. Rest in peace.

I never learned about this until now, but Paul Wühr, one of the more interesting contemporary German experimental authors, died on July 12th this year.

I've only read a few of his books - notably Das falsche Buch, as well as the poetry collections Rede and Sage, plus the audio play (Hörspiel) So spricht unsereiner and Hagestedt's Paul Wühr. ( Read more... )
