Another reason it pays to know German.
my brother's girlfriend spent the summer overseas, and she sent him a package from Germany that arrived yesterday! now, if you know anything about shipping internationally, you have to fill out a form detailing everything in the package, that gets plastered to the outside of the package. so my mom brings in the mail, and she's reading this list:

my mom's jaw just about dropped. SHE SENT HIM UNDERWEAR????
mom, I said, "brief" is the German word for "letter"....
sure enough. no underwear in the package.
