normally I give up sweets for lent because to me, that's a huge sacrifice. I'm not this year, ironically because I have high blood sugar and need to cut down on that stuff anyway. on the one hand it feels like it's not a huge sacrifice (I mean, added onto the sacrificing I'm already doing) since I'm already cutting it out anyway. more more importantly, I'm afraid if I cut it out entirely for lent, I'll end up doing what I always used to do when lent was over, which is gorge on sweets at Easter and the week or so following. which would be BAD BAD BAD. so no giving up sweets it is.
I considered (for chris's health) going to a fish-only meatless entire lent rather than just fridays, but since we live with other people and take turns cooking, that might not be possible this year. maybe next year and all future lents.
last year I posted about trying to eat more simple, midle eastern meals during lent, in a "what would Jesus eat?" sort of way. I failed last year, but think we'll do better at that this year since we've already inadvertently been eating that way more in our effort to replace empty carbs with more complex whole grains, and replace red meats with more fish. and replace other snacky-type foods with dried fruits and raw nuts.
