We looked into each other’s eyes
And I pretended not to be
Affected by that earnest look
That You bestowed to me
As I walk along that dusty path
I recall that twinkle in His eye
He looked at me like I was more
Than just a passer-by
The way You smiled
The way You laughed
The way You took your time
The way You spoke
Through Your eyes
And directly into mine
Although our meet was quite short
Shallow waters I could not tread
I somehow knew You’d know if I lied
About the brokenness inbred
But even when I spoke the truth
Of pain...it disappeared
Because in that moment just being by You
Was enough to heal my fears
Laugh lines were etched around Your eyes
Your voice was bold yet frail
I could sense my pain being swept away
When You began to inhale
As I walk alone on that dusty path
I hope with all I am
That I can be as real with you
As was that Holy Man.
