Recently I read something (might have been here, apologies if it was and I didn't remember it was you) that really resonated with me. Basically, they said (and I concur) that they didn't believe that people went to heaven, but had no trouble believing that cats and dogs did. It's not a "I love animals more than people" thing, and I know it doesn't make much sense. But I find comfort in the Happy Hunting Ground in the Sky, and it just seems right to me.

Anyway.

Oliver has a new hobby, thankfully one that does not involve killing and eating songbirds. He is training to be a world class cardboard shredder. (I'm not complaining. I'd much rather clean up cardboard pieces than bird pieces.)

Here he is, hard at work on his project. (Note his thumb!)

Thinking he was just about done, and seeing how much he enjoyed it, I got him a new box. But he is nothing if not thorough. He didn't touch the new box until he'd completely decimated the old one. No pieces at all bigger than about an inch square.

His speed is improving dramatically. The first box took two to three weeks to destroy. The second (seen above when it was whole) is almost gone and it's been less than a week since he started on it.

I'm thinking I'm going to invest in vacuum cleaner bag stock. Or maybe I could rent him out as a green alternative to paper shredders.
