Last night my brother and I stopped by my aunt and uncle's house to see if one of our cousins was there. The specific one we were looking for wasn't, but seven others were. (There are twelve children in the family.) We ended up staying there for over an hour and a half, just playing with the kids. They are amazingly close in age, the seven at home were all between the ages of eleven and one year old!
It was so much fun to play with my cousins. They are so sweet...I don't use the word "adorable" very often, but I think that it's a good description of these kids. I hadn't really seen them for over a year or two, so I didn't even recognize a lot of them. It was embarrassing not knowing all of their names. Their names are Jessica, Rachel, Hannah, Wesley, Sarah, Julia and Whitney. (Excluding the five oldest) Just writing Hannah's name reminds me of her excitedly telling me that her name spells "Hannah" both forward and backward. She is six years old, I imagine she's learning spelling right now, as well as losing teeth.
One of the cutest things that happened while I was there was with Julia. She is only three years old, and had been kind of shy at first. She didn't know my name or recognize me at the beginning. After a little while, she sat down next to me and announced, "You can hold me now." I had been holding Whitney (the youngest) for a while, so apparently that gave her the reassurance that I was safe.
Kids like that make me want to have kids. I realized they're not like that all the time, but it seems like the time when they're like that would make it all worth it. It's fun being the oldest cousin on either sides, and being able to watch so much family grow up. (I think I have 28 cousins) It is motivating to me to be a good example for all of them.
