Yesterday I was reminded of a very interesting
article about Professor Antony Flew, a
world-renowned atheist for decades that has now reversed his position on God.
He has made it clear that he doesn't believe in the God of Christianity or Islam, but believes that the complexity of nature points to an "intelligent design."
The first thought that comes to my mind is "so close, and yet so far!" He is a perfect example of someone who intellectually acknowledges God, but does not put his trust in Him. James 2:19 says "You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder."
It is so sad to me that this old man has come so close to a knowledge of God, then rejects Him. Being in the position that he is in, I'll make a bet that he has heard the message of the gospel.
One of the linked articles quoted Dr. William Lane Craig, who praised Flew's honesty. I can't imagine how tough it would be for someone like this, who has spent his entire life fighting to disprove the existence of God, only to rescind near the end of his life. I hope he goes the rest of the way and trusts Christ as his savior.
