Curious the losses for 1914 contradict all other numbers Iv seen and surpass even Nelipovichs new numbers.
If 1914 the KuK army lost 132 4934 men of all causes and we remove the sick we get 1041678. Now if we remove the losses of the Serbian campagin (which also include sick so some men will be counted double) of 226 600, we get over 815 078 for the Russian front. This surpasses Nelipovichs 741 133 by 73945. Now if we go by the cathegories.
The KuK army lost 28 000 KIA against Serbia. This means 117053 dead against Russia, which is 45 324 men more then Nelipovich gives or 39% more. on the other hand the number of missing is slightly lower then Nelipovichs 335 810 vs 359 914 and below the number of POW Russia declared to have taken. If we then see that out of the combined number of wounded and sick, the sick make up 37% and apply it to the number of 122 100 wounded and sick for the Serbian campagin we get 76 923 wounded, this leaves 407 392 wounded against the Russians vs 309 490 that Nelipovich gives us. This is 97902 or 24% more.
When it comes to officers things get even more strange. Nelipovich writes about 2200 dead officers, 6046 wounded and 2181 missing. Here we have 4827, 11950 and 4706. Nelipovichs numbers make us 45%, 50% and 47% of the numbers given here. I think it is impossible that over half the KuK officers died in Serbia.
Thanks for the valuable comments. To be honest, I don’t know the reason why the losses are so different in these sources. In the near future I will re-read Nelipovich, perhaps I will express my assumptions. Is it okay if I reply in Russian?
Yes I can read Russian very well, I just am bad at writing it. Do you know if the Austrian losses of wounded and sick are only evacuated like the Russian numbers?
For 1916 Nelipovich adds the number of evacuated sick to the overal wounded number for the Russians, meanwhile for the Austrians at least the sick are clearly excluded from the calculation. On the other hand the number of evacuated does exclude the lightly wounded and it is unclear if they are included in the austrian calculation.
