Chapter 1  Pilot
1.1  End Of Summer

The sun came up from the braes of the southern Californian coastal hill chains, illuminating the campus of Pacific Coast Academy, the most illustrous boarding school in the greater Los Angeles area.

It was that special day at the end of summer on which the campus opened for the new academic year.

One of the most important students on the campous was senior Zoey Brooks, a popular blond Mary Sue, who had spent two weeks of her ending summer break on Maui, one of the islands belonging to Hawaii. 1 More precisely, she had been employed by world renowned Hotel Chambrolay as a bay watch. She had heard many stories about shipwrecks suffered both by native fishermen and by visitors. The main cause for this was some giant whirl or maelstrom located off Kauai, another part of Hawaii. Zoey was not sure what to make of these stories, but she had ignored them ever since, anyways. Granted, the reasond for employing lifeguards like Zoey Brooks was that of saving tourists from the perils of the beach and the waves. But the beach of Maui had been peaceful all the time, which made it hard to even think about any pernicious currents.

Zoey was accompanied by her younger brother Dustin, a particularly smart and cool middle school guy. Their parents were now living in London in Great Britain, something which made it more important for the boy to be able to rely on. He had promised Zoey to help her with her luggage. Among other things, this included her blue plush squid. Dustin was often distracted, especially by girls, something that annoyed Zoey who just wanted to get her student drop tasks done.

Fledgling Hollywood diva Gloria Victoria de la Vega y Martinez, generally known as Lola, 2 walked across the campus like a true movie star, although she had hitherto only served in commercials and music clips. But she was still secure in the knowledge of making it to the big screen and starting harvesting Oscars by the dozen as soon as possible. Lola had been Zoey’s room mate for three years, and they had also been assigned 101 Brenner Hall for this year. The excessively pretty Latina squeaked like a damsel in distress when she saw the blond Mary Sue across the campus square.

The two girls hugged, jumping up and down for excitement and dropping their luggage.

Dustin shrugged. “I can’t carry all that for you!” He just walked on.

Lola wanted to know about Zoety’s days, and even more about her nights, on Maui. “Have you and Chase …”

Chase Bartholomew Matthews was the boyfriend of Zoey. He had been away from California for half a year and only returned for junior prom, where he and Zoey had finally become a couple after almost four years of patience.

Zoey choked, sighing for disappointment. “It is over!”

Lola looked aghast. “What is wrong?”

Zoey explained, “Chase does not forgive us having reconciled with Vince.”

Quarterback Vince Blake was the fiancé of Lola Martinez and friend of Zoey, but he had once upon a time beat up Chase Matthews badly for having denounced the jock for cheating in a history test right before an important football match, the punishment being suspension and exclusion from the final showdown, and he had even been expelled for that abominable misdeed. But during Chase’s absence, Vince had been pardoned by the administration of Pacific Coast Academy. Upon his return, he looked like a new man. Lola started dating him, and Chase’s other friend, including Zoey, had not only forgiven him, but also befriended the creep.

Lola gasped. “What? How can he not forgive Vince?”

Zoey shrugged sadly. But she anticipated that this would also be a burden for her friendship with Lola.

But now they decided to go to their dormitory block in order to take care of their luggage, which was already scattered all over the campus squared and needed to be recollected.
1.2  101 Breanner Hall

Their third room made during the last two years had been one Quinn Pensky, a nerd girl from Seattle in the state of Washington. But this year, the geek was no longer a student at Pacific Coast Academy.

Lola had not known that, and so she was now totally surprised. Even more, she was consternated when noticing her new room mate.

Stacey Dillsen from Swampsott in the state of Massachusetts was the most unpopular Pacific Coast Academy senior girl. She used to annoy everyone with her lispish pronunciation, and with her passion for creating sculptures from cotton swabs.

Zoey was not exactly a friend of Stacey, either, but she was able to bear the situation, or at least willing to try to do so.

Stacey started talking about her summer break, and especially about her new favourite web show.

Lola was close to exploding, and so she stuffed her ears with her Zoey’s plush squid.

Stacey had got some other important news. “Do you remember last year’s road trip to the theme park?”

Lola and Zoey nodded solemnly. “Sure, we have enjoyed the ride on the Spine Twister.” 3

Stacey continued, “they have now got a new ride, an underwater roller coaster named Maelstrom. I have already started making a cotton swab model of it.”

Lola was annoyed by Stacey’s swab sculptures.

But Blix Pack has announced to grant a huge award for the person standing through the longest ride on the Maelstrom.

Zoey’s eyes bugged out, She was known for being extremely endurant.

Lola wondered, “there will be a big picture of the winner on TV, right?”

Stacey nodded solemnly.
1 This trip is anticipated in Zoey 101: Chasing Zoey. 2 This identifies Lola Martinez from Zoey 101 with Tori Vega from Victorious. 3 The Spine Twister is featured in Zoey 101: Roller Coaster. This document was translated from LATEX by HEVEA.
