1.1. Waking Up
The sun was about coming up from the mountain braes and started illuminating the campus of Pacific Coast Academy, the most renowned and elitary boarding school of southern California.
More precisely, the school was located at the dreamy Peperdyne beach of Malibu, and thus right at the outskirts of the world of Hollywood, the factory of endless dreams, nightmares, horror trips, and hallucinations sold in the whole world by modern mass entertainment technology. Many students were relatedto people active in the Hollywood business, or were up to a career in the realms of supreme vanity once when the time was right.
But not all of the dreams and nightmares were movie and TV productions, sometimes people suffered from a blackout and were passing lots of time unconscious or comatose.
And precisely this had happened to no other but Michael Barret, a funny Afro-American teenager and one of the juniors of Pacific Coast Academy. And now he woke up in St. Schneider's Hospital[
1] in Los Angeles, wondering where he was.
Responsible medic Dr. Hollywood[
2] and nurse Hunsucker[
3] sighed for incredible relief, for many patients in similar circumstances were never going to wake up from their comatose state again, at least nowhere near as fast as Michael Barret - after one week of unconsciousness.
Confused Michael squealed like crazy as he was not aware of what was going on.
Doc Hollywood explained, “Sir, you had got a little accident …”
Michael started screaming like a crazed fury, as he hated accidents and was strangely obsessed with them.
Hunsucker explained a few details, “you were playing hockey in the admin building of Pacific Coast Academy, and there you got hit by a hockey stick of your friend Logan Reese. Thereupon your lights went out. OK, so we have to check … what is your name … how many fingers am I holding up …”
Michael was not about to flunk anything here, demonstrating that his brain was working well - at least not worse than before the accident on the campus.
The diagnostics performed during Michael's unconsiousness had resulted in the secure knowledge that Michael Barret was not left with any discernable and irreversable organic damage. After all, Michael had onl
y been hit lightly over the head.
Hollywood announced that it was now necessary to inform the administration of Michael's school and tell them about the impending release of their student from St. Schneider's. Of course some final examinations were due now, but it was necessary to dio the right administrational steps int ime, especially for the health insurance responsible for the students of Pacific Coast Academy. Dean Rivers, the leader of the renowned educational institution, was known for being very strict at some times.
1.2. The Release
In the evening hours of the same day, a delegation of students of Pacific Coast Academy arrived at St. Schneider's Hospital with a written permit issued and signed officially by Dean Rivers in order to take care of their fellow students and to guide him home again.
This mission was lead by extrememly blond Mary Sue Zoey Brooks, the speaker of the juniors at Pacific Coast Academy. Her parents were now living abroad, and Zoey originally been coming with them to London and study at even more renowned Covington Prep, but Zoey had decided to return very early and graduate here at Pacific Coast Academy. She was accompanied by her room mates Quinn Pensky and Lola Martinez. Zoey was a gifted fashion designer, but she was also not unlikely to choose a career as a business officer or a lawyer.
Lola was a typical drama queen of the most brattish sort who was hankering crazily after good kissers and who aimed for making her fist Oscar at the age of nineteen.
Quinn Pensky was a geek girl from Seattle renowned for a variety of scientific discoveries and more or less useful and functioning technological inventions or innovations. She was not unlikely to make her first Nobel Prize before Lola ade her first Oscar.
Last but not least, there was Logan Reese, sone of boldly dominating Hollywood producer Malcolm Reese. He was the most reckless and unconscientious playboy and dandy of the greater Los Angeles area. Logan and Michael had been room pals for almost six years already, since they had made it to Pacific Coast Academy for middle school studies. And this had truly not always been without troubles, and only Michael's craziness forced him to keep on considering Logan as a friend, albeit the “worst friend”[
4]. Last but not least, Logan's caman had been the reason for Michael's week long unconsciousness.
Michael was glad to see his friends again, or at least those he had vcalled his friends during the last few years, for the dream he had got during his period of unconsciousness had got the potential of making him doubt, more or less.
Zoey brooks, the most responsible of all pupils at Pacific Coast Academy, held a form sheet in her hand that she had been handed by Dean Rivers, it contained all the formal stuff necessary for the health insurance and the necessary oasses for following medical examinations. Beverly Brown[
5], had already informed the grandmother of Michae Barret. His parentd did only care little of him - a reason for sending him to a boarding school in the first place - and were not really interested in the accident and its consequences for Michael.
Logan excused himself for having swung the hockey club without warning and accidentally hit Michael's head in a catastrophic matter, resulting in Michael's blackout, and it was obvious that Zoey had talked Logan into doing so, as the creepy playboy would never have seen anything wrong in carelessly knicking his friends out.
Finally, everythingb was done and Michael was allowed to return to the campus of Pacific Coast Academy. But he had not yet talked to any of his “friends” about the contents of his dream from the time of hius blackout. This was something to be done after his return to the sacred ahlls of the most illustrous boarding school of southern California.
