1.1. Improved Techfoots
Quinn Pensky, a nerdy senior at renowned Californian boarding school “Pacific Coast Academy”, was sitting on her bed in her dormitory room, 101 Brenner Hall, in order to study her latest mail.
Her pal Lola Martinez was readjusting her makeup. The attractive Latina was supoposed to participate in an audition for a new show by Hollywood csar Malcolm Reese, iMiranda[ imiranda] . She had to look particularly cute.
Quinn's favourite cousin, Camille, was also going to be there and rival Lola.
Thus the cute criolla did not like to talk about it to her nerdy roomie.
Their third room pal, blond Mary-Sue Zoey Brooks, was busy with her application for college. She wanted to become a lawyer. She would certainly not have been a bad one, as she had got experiences with representing her fellow pupils, including younger brother Dustin, at the school's committees.
Her major inclination, nevertheless, was fashion design.
But her parents, currently living across the Atlantic, did not approve of Zoey's latter interests, and they wanted her to prepare for a solid career.
All of a sudden, Quinn squealed for joy.
Zoey and Lola looked aghast at their pal. “Quinn?”
The geeky young woman beamed. “Daka has accepted my latest quinnvention.”
Zoey gasped. “Daka as in Daka Shoes?”
Quinn nodded solemnly. “Last year, they had invented ‘techfoots’, those are shoes with all nuts and bolts you may imagine, including built-in interweb access.”
Lola shrugged. “How good for you nerds.”
Quinn explained, “unfortunately, those did not work exactly like expected. My cousin Fredward Benson and his friends have complained a lot about them.”
Zoey asked, “those kids with their own web show?”
Quinn nodded. “iCarly … they had been sponsored by Daka. This caused a few troubles. Whatever …”
Zoey moaned, “Dustin is a total fan of the show. He seems to root for the dark-haired moderator.”
Quinn giggled. “Carly? Yeah, she's totally popular. But you won't like the co-host.”
Zoey shrugged. “Who is it?”
Quinn replied, “it's Samantha Puckett, alias Trisha Kirby[ trisha kirby]. .”
Zoey gasped.
A few years ago, Trisha Kirby had been studying at “Pacific Coast Academy”. But she had seduced and abused Dustin.
Zoey had immediately got Trisha expelled.
Quinn's statement was thus no good news for Zoey.
But Quinn had to say a lot more. “I've started fixing the problems of those ‘techfoots’ and added a few more gadgets, such as a coffee machine. Daka has accepted by bug fixes. They will start producing them as soon as their new factory is completed. I'm in it for 50 thousand bucks a year! Now I don't need Logan's money. And there will be a version for people with six toes on their right foot.”
Zoey shrugged. “How good for you!”
Logan Reese, son of aforementioned Malcolm Reese, was a reckless playboy and jerk.
Quinn had been dating the sucker for half a year just for his money. She deemed the bucks necessary in order to continue her excessively expensive research projects.
Zoey remarked, “I'd rather use my old-fashioned sneakers.”
Quinn protested, “but where's the fun?”
Zoey shrugged.
Lola grinned. “Maybe the global warming will make shoes totally obsolete? I'd rather walk the beach with nothing but a fishnet swim suit, all year long.”
Zoey sighed. She had been designing swim suits for quite a while. She was sad for not going to make this her profession, though.
1.2. New Offer for iCarly
In an attic of a loft at Bushwell Plaza, a building in Seattle, three teens were preparing the next session of their popular web show, iCarly.
Carly Shay grinned. “OK, we could either cut Gibby's toenails, blindfolded[ cutting toenails] or make another episode of Mess With Lewbert.”
Freddie claimed, “definitely Lewbert! He sucks!”
“So do you,” remarked Sam.
Carly calmed Sam down. “OK, let's mess with the creep!”
Freddie and Sam nodded.
Lewbert was the disgusting doorman of Bushwell Plaza.
Gibby was a class pal of the kids.
Freddie continued, “talking about Gibby's feet …” He shuddered for disgust. “My cousin Quinn has now fixed and improved Daka's techfoots.”
Sam remarked, “a whole family of nerds …” She wasclose to throwing up. But she knew Quinn very well, and she even admired her. Alas, Sam had not yet mentioned this to her friends.
Sam and Quinn had participated together in pageants.[ pageants]
Quinn was already studying at “Pacific Coast Academy” during Sam's short period spent down there.
Sam and Quinn had been practiding the trombone together.[ sam quinn and the trombone]
Last but not least, Quinn had already been performing several surgical operations on Sam's mother. She had obtained a deputy license from Dr. Hollywood[ dr hollywood] in order to treat her victims “appropriately”. Soon, Quinn was going to perform some eye lasering on Samantha's mother.
Sam did not want to talk about all that, especially because of knowing about Fradward's and Quinn's relationship.
Carly wondered, “will Daka want us again in order to promote their new techfoots?”
Sam grunted, “this was a catastrophe! But I could use the money in order to pay my rapidly increasing debits in the groceries and bistros of Seattle.” Sam was always hungry.
Fredward nodded. “Well, they even want us for the opening of their new industrial centre.”
Sam shrugged. “A new what?”
Freddie explained, “Daka and a few other companies are going to establish a new group of factories. And they offer to pay us for promoting the opening ceremony in our web show.”
Carly gasped. “Not without Spencer's prior permission!”
Spencer Shay was a law-school drop out. But he still knew a lot about contracts. So he was predestined for reading his “baby sister's” contracts before letting her sign them.
Freddie shrugged. “I don't even know about the location of the factories.”
1.3. It's A Jet-X
Zoey Brooks rode her scooter across the campus.
It was not just a scooter, it was a “Jet-X”.
Zoey was proud of her vehicle. She had won it as a middle school girl in a class project. More precisely, she had delivered the best commercial for the promotion of this brand of scooter.
The project had been incited by Jake Savage[ jake savage] from Qualitech Industries, producer of this most successful brand of motor bikes.
Jake Savage had been an old friend of Mr. Bender, Zoey's favourite teacher back at middle school.
Zoey had heard about rumours concerning an expansion of Qualitech.
This move appeared necessary in order to cope with the high demand for the new, improved version of this “Jet-X”.
Quinn had already been offered a job as a quality engineer for Qualitech.
The firm was thus fairly serious about its plans of expansion.
Zoey was already looking forward for the purchase of a new “Jet-X” and could hardly wait. She didn't watch for the traffic until …
Bang!
A scream was heard.
Zoey gasped. “Stacey?”
Stacey Dillsen was a dorky class mate of Zoey Brooks, best known for her slurred way of talking. She liked to build things from cotton swabs and white glue. She did no longer care about her scratches and bruises received from Zoey's scooter. But she saw another of her great works of arts burst into smithereens.
Zoey sighed deeply. “Sorry, Stacey!”
The dork girl started weeping.
Zoey left her bike and helped her pal by gathering the swabs. “I will help you gluing them again.”
Stacey sobbed. “Fortunately, the new ‘Grizzly Glue’ will work better.”
Zoey had never heard about that sticky stuff.
Stacey explained, “‘Grizzly Glue’ from Grizzly Industries fastens within a second and remains solid for several years! Quinn has helped them improving it.”
Zoey grinned. “That sounds cool! Isn't that glue sold at Bakersfield?”
Stacey nodded. “But the new, improved glue will be produced in a new industrial centre.”
Zoey shrugged carelessly. “OK!”
So they had to wait for the next wave of industrial expansion, a gleefully anticipated event probably just around the corner.

2.1. Pacific Coast News
Jane Kennedy[ jane kennedy], a TV producer of one of the greatest and most popular broadcasting corporations in Los Angeles, was very nervous.
Today's breakfast news contained informations about one of the biggest moves of Californian industry and econonomy as a whole since the last century.
Mrs. Kennedy wondereded, “where is our unpaid intern?”
The members of the staff hustled about.
The lady in control took a deep breath. “OK, Trottman!”
Said intern arrived.
Jane Kennedy panted. “Your task of the day is that of interviewing Mr. Robert Bixby from the Californian board of industries anbout the new centre in preparation.”
Jeremiah Trottman was a high school senior at “Pacific Coast Academy”. He had got several years of experience as the chiefreporter of the boarding school's own internbal news channel. Being up to professional tasks, he had successfully applied for this unpaid internship. He was now lookling forward to a paid internship, allowing him to go to Los Angeles journalists's school. But in order to make it there, he needed to master the tasks imposed upon him by Mrs. Kennedy.
2.2. The Interview
“Pacific Coast Broadcast News Channel, this is Jeremiah Trottma” The Reporter was still nervous.
Mr. Bixby looked sternly at him.
Trottman stammered, “today, Mr. Robert Bixby, president of the industrial board of the state of California, is going to unveil to the public one of the buggest moves in the history of our economy.”
Robert Bixby grabbed the microphone, “correct! I'm talking hundred thousands of new opportunities for employement. We did not have anything like this in over a decade.”
Jeremiah wiped some sweat off his face. “OK, so may you talk about some of the details?”
Mr. Bixby nodded. “It is a coordinated action of some of the greatest industriesof the state, no, I'm talking about the whole nation: Daka Shoes, Grizzly chem.ind., Qualitech, and a variety of minor fellow players have agreed, under my presidence, to open one of the greatest hitherto underdeveloped areas of our state for modern civilisation. Many future generations of Californians will have to thank us.”
Jeremiah smiled. “I think these are great news. Would you please talk about the geographical details?”
Mr. Bixby nodded. “Well, according top the reliable research of our experts,” he explained, “one of hitherto most neglected region of our state has been determined to be the so-called Yosemite region.” He had prepared a geographical sketch.
The technical team started displaying the annotated map of central backwater California in the background of the screen region.
Mr. Bixby took a long stick. “Here, this is the hitherto deemed unaccessable and useless heart of Yosemite. It's a wild and uncivilised landscape. But within just two years, the first industrial plants will go online and provide jobs for gazillions of hitherto unemployed Californians.”
Jeremiah was impressed. “Wow! Everyone talks about unemoployment. But Bixby industries and the state-wide industrial board does not talk, it does act about it!. These are great news for the whole state, if not the whole country. Many new possibilities are opening up for the national economy. Thanks, Mr. Bixby! Thanks for your attention! Back to Jane Kennedy in our headquarters. This was Jeremiah Trottman from Pacific Coast News Channel.”
The broadcast was terminated.
2.3. First Reactions
2.3.1. At PCA
Many pupils at “Pacific Coast Academy” had gathered in the foyer in order to watch breakfast TV.
Jeremiah Trottman was not really popular among his fellow students, though.
Logan Reese grinned. “Yeah! I've just acquired the unique filming rights for the event.”
Zoey Brooks wondered, “Wait! Isn't Yosemite under protection by law? It's one of the last retreats of Californian nature.”
Yosemite Park was a popular target of field trips.
Coco Wexler, the girls' dorm adviser, often went with some of the kids on camping trips through the region.
Logan explained, “environmental laws are just like nasty bugs to be stomped. A bit of a bribe here and a favour there, and nobody cares.” He shrugged with exorbitant arrogance.
Zoey complained, “money isn't everything.”
Logan grunbted, “Aw you girls … money is everything to count in this world. Grow up!”
Quinn was not quite at ease. “Some earn their money with their brain. Others have got money instead of a brain.”
Logan laughed viciously. “Aw Quinn! What do you think? Bixby pays for your patents. And who paid them for giving you a chance?”
Quinn gasped.
Logan continued, “without my financial instigation, neither Qualitech nor Grizzly nor Daka would eeven have considered investing into your stupid patents. Now you owe me some thousands of bucks.”
Quinn went totally pale.
Logan continued, “And you better pray for Bixby's project to go well. Otherwise they won't be able to pay your shares, and you will end up flat broke broke.”
Quinn threw up.
Brimstone smoke billowed forth from Zoey's capital orifices.
She grunted at Logan, “one day, even you will have to see that money can't be eaten!”
Logan picked a bill of twenty bucks from his wallet and stuffed it between his teeth. He started chewing and swallowing the printed paper. “See?”
Some onlookers shuddered for excessive disgust.
Zoey sighed deeply.
Logan walked away. “I've got a meeting with the Bank of California. Have a nice day!” He walked ouyt on his “friends”.
Zoey was still somewhat speechless.
Lola smiled. “They are filming the event? Cool, I want to be in that movie!” She was absolutely addicted to making it to TV.
Chase commented, “Logan is sick!”
Michael added, “yeah, or the colour ink will make him sick.”
Lola grabbed her makeup set. “I need to look perfectly cute for the docu film.”
Zoey was upset, “Lola! Can't you think about anything else than making it to TV?”
Lola looked puzzled.
Michael commented, “Think of the many bugs that will have to look for a new home!”
Lola threw up.
Wayne “Firewire” Gilbert was particularly worried. He was a science fiction freak. He had read in one of his favourite sci-fi superhero comics about the necessity of a new superhero to prevent the impending destruction of a sanctuary of an old, sunk civilisation.
And, according to some natives, Yosemite Park was a holy place.
Its disturbance would inevitably trigger catastrophes of an apocalyptic dimension.
Wayne needed to find a way to stop it.
2.3.2. At James K. Polk
Students flocked into the locker hall of James K. Polk.
Custodian Gordy polished the floor. “OK, the rest is up to the nightshift! I'm now gping to catch the weasel and deport it into the wesel retreat in Yosemite's.”
Principal Wright was reading the morning news, complete with a report about the plans of Bixby's.
Suzannah Crabgrass, one of the juniors, was xconsternated. “Poor Yosemite frogs!”
Jennifer Mosely, alias “Moze” shrugged. “Hey! The new industrial centre will provide thousands of Californuians with jobs.”
William Loomer, a bully, giggled. “Time to torture some big bee!” He started chasing after Edmond Bigby, alias “Ned”, another junior, with a fly swatter.
Ned shrugged. “maybe the industrial trash could really be some danger?”
“Moze” shrugged.
Simon Nelson Cook alias “Cookie”, Ned's best friend, remarked, “it's impossible for them to accomplish this within two years.” He was a computer genius. No, he was half computer, half teenager. He claimed himself as a cynorg, for that matter. “Maybe they have even started the project before getting the proper permission?”
Was that possible?
Ned knew a bit more about Bixby and scandals.
His cousin Nolan Byrd[ nolan byrd] had been able to save his hometown from an environmental disaster, almost two years ago. But he had not done so openly. He iused a hero's pseudonym, “Shredderman”, in order to stay secret.
Ned had promised Nolan to keep his second identity a secret. In the case of a scandal, Ned deemed “Shredderman” the only hope for salvation.
Along came spoiled rich lass Mercedes Griffin, commonly known as “Missy Meany” due to her arrogant demeanour. “I've just purchased the exclusive filming rights for the event!”
Mercedes' father, At Griffin, was one of the biggest guys in the Hollywood business, and one of the most important partners yet sometimes competitors of Malcolm Reese.
Billy Loomer had finbally found Edmond Bigby and was swatting his back without mercy.
Since the departure of Loomer's biggest pal, Jerome Crony, this was way less of a fun for him, though.
Ned escaped into the girls' toilets.
Finally, the bell rabg for the first perios.
Jennifer Mosely and her friends needed to attend chemistry lab classes by Mr. Sweeny, a really stern teacher.
The students' flock in the locker hall dispersed.
2.3.3. Première Theater
Helen Baxter, owner of San Diego's hugest cinema hall, opened the gates for a new day.
Many visitors had already read the morning news, just like the boss in person.
Helen expected the docu film announced both by Reese and by Griffin to become very popular, assuring high quota and lots of bucks for “Première”. Even more, the new industrial centre would trigger new settlements and the need for a new cinema in Yosemite. She wanted to secure the rights for running the first cinema over there.
But two permanent visitors, lifeless nerds Eric Blonowitz and Craig Ramires, started discussing the worst case scenario.
Helen was upset.
The freaks could have scared away other guests.
Helen ordered Crazy Steve, a psychopath working at her theatre hall, to shut the freaks up.
Megan Parker, a middle school upperclassgirl, arrived in order to torture, er visit, her step-brother Joshuah, another employee of the cinema.
Josh started talking about the complexity of industrial chemical processes. “Industrial glue, like that by ‘Grizzly’, for example …”
Megan looked upset. “Shut up, boob!” She used the term boob for worthless boys.
Josh twitched.
Megan told Josh, “I don't know why, but the whole Yosemite project smells fishy. And the fish is rotting from the head down!”
Josh did not understand. Was he ever going to?

Chapter 3. First Protests

3.1. Mr. Henning
Mr. Henning was a teacher for science at “Ridgeway”, the most renowned district school of Seattle.
Students at this school comprised Fredward Benson, Samantha Puckett, and Carlotta Shay.
Today, there were classes in biology.
Mr. Henning was talking about ecological balance. “OK, last week, we have started treating the dangers of human intervention in natural ecological systems.”
Charles “Gibby” Cornelius Gibson, a freaky student, ripped his shirt off his chest. “Now I'm all natural! Yeah! Ain't I awesome?”
Mr. Henning grunted, “Gibby! Into the corner!”
Gibby sighed. He walled into the next corner.
Samantha Puckett graunted with a taunting voice, “you're a visual danger for the environment!” She pulled at his panties.
That was one example of bad fabric. It tore apart without much effort.
Sam held a stinking lump of cotton and polyethylenes in her hands. She coughed for disgust and threw the malodorous textiles into the face of Fredward Benson.
Freddie choked. “Sam!”
Mr. Henning did not approve of Freddie's interruption and sent him into the other corner.
Carly stood up. “Mr. Henning! I have to protest against this punishment.”
Mr. Henning rebuked Carly severely and sent her into yet another corner. “OK, Carly was nice enough to mention the word protest.”
Carly thought unto herself, “thanks, Carly!”
Mr. henning continued, “there have already been many catastrophic interventions of mankind into natural systems. But one of the biggest perversities is now going on in California. The map!”
Somew student unrolled a map of California.
Alas, it was not a map. It was a picture of Samantha Puckett from behind.
Sam grunted silently, “Fredward Benson! I'm going to get you! Not today! Not tomorrow! But some day, when you expect it least …”
Mr. Henning was consternated.
After a second attempt, there was amap of California.
Mr. Henning pointed his stick at Yosemite National Park. “This region is one of the last Californian retreats for wildlife, such as American black bears, gray foxes, white-headed woodpeckers, and plants such as giant sequoias …”
The class moaned for boredom.
Mr. Henning talked about the plans of the “Bixby Trust”. “And this is our class project. Write a letter to Bixby and to the ‘White House’, protesting against the ongoing scandal in California! In particular, I want you to prove the possibilituy of surviving without their scooters, super glues, tech foots, and so on, by providing environmentally acceptable alternatives. Have a nice day!”
The bell rang.
The class was little pleased by this project.
Freddie, Carly, and Gibby left their respective corners.
Freddie moaned, “Carly, haven't you bought a ‘Jet-X’ for Spencer?”
Carly nodded solemnly. “From the money from Daka Shoes.”
Sam grunted, “bad Carly! That's very evil!”
Carly sighed for despair. She had to hope for Mr. Henning to never find out about this.
Sam commented, “but at Melanie[ melanie] 's school, almost everyone rides a ‘Jet-X’.”
Melanie Puckett was Samantha's monozygotic twin sister. She still studied at “Pacific Coast Academy”.
Freddie did not believe in the existence of Melanie. “Shut up! You can't fool me with that!”
Carly had got a hard time to seperate the bickering frenemies.
3.2. Zachariah Carter-Schwartz
Rocky Road was a small town in southern New Jersey.
Kids from the local high school flocked into the cafteria.
It was already fairly cold outside.
A bad wind coming from Ontario blew in.
Many a student would have wished to be able to spend the winter in warm and sunny California instead.
Junior Addie Singer was one of them.
Her brother Benjamin was now studiying at some college in California.
Usually, she had hated him. But since his departure, she had started missing him.
At the beginning of the year, her best friend Geena Fabiano[ geena fabiano] had to move with her parents to Seattle. She would rather have followed her half-sister Lucy Stone to California, either.
Her last remaining friend was now ecopacifist freak Zachariah Carter Schwartz, a follower of the Ras Tafari movement of immortal Bob Marley. He had been Geena's boyfriend for the first two years of high school.
But their relationship had been as fragile as can be.
Geena Fabiano was really shallow, interested in fashion and cosmetics. She could not hold a candle to an ecopacifist Zach. She did not mind massive animal abuse or rubbish generation for cosmetic products.
The separation was thus a necessary consequence and was just catalysed by Geena's move across the continent.
But Seattle also held some more significance foer Zachariah Carter Schwartz.
His father had moved there over ten years ago and married another woman.
Said wife already had a daughter with her previous husband.
Her name was Leann[ leann] .
She was plain white and had no associations with Zach's African origins. But she shared his endeavour for ecopacifism, albeit in a different form. She worked for animal shelter institutions in uptown Seattle. Unbeknownst to anyone, she blushed and swooned for her step-brother all the time.
Especially Zach was not aware of Leann's feelings. Otherwise he would never have fallen for completely unsuited Geena Fabiano.
Today, the first news about the project of Bixby and his gang arrived at Rocky Road.
Addie and Zach were disgusted.
But this happened for different reasons.
Zach was upset by the great perils for the environment introduced to American nature by Bixby's project in the heart of rural California. He had to save the home of the black bears and the giant sequoias.
Addie, on the other hand, just hated Maris Bingham, the arrogant step-daughter of Mr. Bixby.
Maris's best friend Patty Perez had once upon a time rivaled with Addie over one Jake Beheri.
Meanwhile, Jake had forsaken all girls.
But this could not stop the hatred between Addie and Maris.
There was a third exorbitantly snobbish girl completing the gang of Maris Bingham: Cranberry Sinclair.[ cranberry]. But same Cranberry had moved to California and become a model for cosmetics and fashion just two years ago.
Addie had always been disgusted by having used a lip stick praised nowadays in commercials featuring Cranberry.
Unbeknownst to Addie until half a year ago, most of her cosmetic products were produced by various members of the Bixby trust.
Finally, both Addie and Zach were now hell bent on sabotaging the project of Mr. Bixby.
Zachariah Carter-Schwartz needed to find a way to organise an environmentalist rebellion against the Bixby trust, especially against “Grizzly Industries”.
That evil firm adorned the cans containing their super glues with the picture of a bear's head. But it was going tp effectively destroy the habitats on the last wild bears.
But Zach needed solid facts in order to prove the dangers of “Project Bixby” for the whole ecology of the United States.
Up here in rural New Jersey, almost nobody was interested in problems of the wildlife in California.
Zach asked Mary Ferry and Duane Ogilvy, the greatest nerds of “Rocky Road”, to evaluate the effects of Bixby's works on the national ecology.
Scrutinising the situation would take some time, even for supergeeks like Mary and Duane.
Addie did not care for a puny dime about the Californian fauna, either. But she could not let down her friend Zach. She was a gifted chansonnier and ballad writer. Maybe she could use her skills in order to help spreading Zach's message, ergo at least annoying Maris, Cranberry, and Patty?
Zach appreciated Addie's attempted support. But he first had to wait for the facts researched by Mary and Duane.

Of course, no rational person of today would follow the verdict of a witch, right?
But everyone would feel the fatal consequences in the case of Kreuftlva's words being right.
