I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT FIRE NATION DAVE TOO. I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT ALL OF THIS.

Like:

John floating through the spires of the temples, practicing the forms he'll need to be a master but never quite achieving them and only ever caring about the joy and freedom and fun.

Rose, and the full moon: she's always known she could do it if she wanted to, a force inside her that she had subconsciously caged. Her mother is dead. And so: she stands on the highest lookout and flexes her hands. She watches the guards tumble one by one.

Dave, in the middle of a scorching day with his brother's sword, still a little too big for him. He fights without emotion, he is already unbelievably good. He is not as good as his brother, and when he stumbles on the rocks in the courtyard no one is there to see.

Jade, open and kind, finds the spirits are friendly on the whole if you just give them a chance. Even the ones who aren't are good conversationalists, with something to teach her. When she is awake, she wanders the gardens barefoot, singing to the plants with her fingers.

Karkat is a child of the colonies, and he's never been granted the ignorance from what that means. He hates to bend, but works hard at it, and always in secret. Bright places hide the bright red of the fire better than dark ones. (While he visits an island terrified of fire, Kanaya becomes the first one to know.)

also, I just had the idea in the shower that since this is way-far-future A:TLA world, Air Nomads are few and far between and aren't really raised as monks anymore, so John was probably actually raised by his dad.

(also that would make John a descendent of Aang, which is just hilariously perfect)

I'm guessing all the kids have met because of John traveling around? And also Jade somehow communicating with them in their dreams.

Of COURSE he has a lemur named Casey. He knows all the stories about the adventures of his great-great-great-great grandparents.

I was thinking about the issue of their ethnicity, and well...we don't really know their race in the comic at all, and I've always fanwanked Jade and John as East Asian anyway. I'd honestly prefer to think that none of the kids are white (but who knows what Hussie thinks). We can chalk up the blondeness of Dave and Rose to weird Yue-type shenanigans. I mean, red and purple eyes. Come on.

And if this is far in the future, Republic City is a thing! Sollux probably lives there.

Should we Humanstuck the trolls in this case, to make it less confusing? Or are they some kind of other being?

I think Vriska is a nonbender. She ran away from her upper-class Fire Nation home to hang with the pirates and bounty hunters. Maybe she is related to Jun???

Dave could be albino. And yeah, moon spirit shenanigans for Rose? WHICH MAKES HER ABLE TO BLOODBEND EVEN WHEN THERE IS NOT A FULL MOON? Or we could just change their hair color, I mean, if this is a fic I don't think it will be SUPER relevant.

And then there's the issue of their names... I suppose we could find cultural equivalents but I don't know.

Augh, I wish we knew more about Republic City.

Hmm, we should probably just make the trolls human because I can't see any reason that space aliens would be hanging around the Avatar world. And it could be super fun!

Actually I could see a big conflict between Dave and Karkat, in that they need a firebender in order to have all four elements for some spirit world thing and Dave feels like he's being replaced, kind of? BUT DAVE YOU ARE NO LESS IMPORTANT JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT A BENDER.

So yeah if we change Terezi to Fire Nation, she was probably Karkat's childhood friend/crush but u know some things don't always work out.

OMG YES BOUNTY HUNTER VRISKA, YES. She grew up in a really toxic environment at home, I'm sure. Still trying to figure out how her self-insertion thing would work out with this plot. Hmm.
