As someone who is interested in pursuing some sort of career related to/in the animation industry, and as someone who is a huge fan of Pixar and their movies, I totally understand where you are coming from. I'm finding my rosy view of Pixar being shattered as well with each article, and I don't quite know what to do with it because it's just so depressing to see your heroes not acting as heroic as they can and should be.

They're obviously just making Cars 2 because the franchise is a cash cow! It may not be a good movie, but I see it doing phenomenally @ the box offices because of all the little boys who like Lightning and Mater so much. :|
I'll probably end up seeing it because lol, there's apparently going to be a Toy Story short at the beginning! Still sort of relevant to my interests! And I still respect Pixar enough to give them my money even if the movie's not going to be the best.

I'm more than happy to welcome Dreamworks's rise of awesomeness into my life and place my faith in them that KFP 2 is as awesome as its sounding right now. This new development from Dreamworks is great, and I can't wait to see what they do next.

Also, I actually can see the Megamind comparison!
