Alex Gaskarth POV
The station is loud and crowded when I get off the train. I look behind me and the rest of my pack is behind me, looking worn out and anxious. We have been tracked by hunters. I’m hoping we lost them in the last transfer.
The clock hanging on a pillar lets me know that it’s just past four in the afternoon. There is still plenty of time before it gets dark. I motion for them to follow me out of the station where it’s not so crowded.
My pack is small. There are only five of us left. I am the Alpha. My protectors are Adam Siska, who is short but fast, and Michael Carden. The last two are mates, Mike Gentile and Cassadee Pope. Cassadee is pregnant and due soon. The pack’s main concern is getting her to safety and quick.
Adam and Michael go on a head of us and try to pick up a scent from another wolf. We are hoping there might be another pack in the area that will be willing to help us for the time being. It doesn’t seem too long before them to pick something up. They lure the wolf to us and we find out that it’s a male. He has dark long hair and olive skin.
"Can I help you with something?" he asks.
"We were wondering if your pack would allow us a place to stay for a while," I reply back stepping forward.
"Who are you?" he asks.
"We are Beothucus wolves. We need a place to stay because we have a pregnant female. We were being tracked but he lost them a while back."
"I'll have to talk it over with my Alpha first. If you wait here, I'll be back with whether you are allowed to stay with us or not."
I nod and he continues on his way. Cassadee sits down on the curb with her mate while I wait. I almost want to send Adam or Michael to follow him, but I feel like I can trust him.
It is almost dark by the time I smell the wolf again. This time there is another with him. The first comes up to us. I stand up and greet him.
"My Alpha wishes to speak to you. He needs to make sure you are not intending us harm."
I nod. The second motions me to him. I approach him with caution. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. He looks at me.
"You don't look like much. Are you sure the pack’s Alpha?"
"I am. There are only five of us left. We need a place to stay until our female gives birth to her pups. We won't cause any disruptions."
“We are Arctos. I am the Alpha, Craig Owens I have heard of your clan, and I could have sworn Beothucus were killed off during the war. But I see that is not the case. I would allow it only for two nights and three days. After that, you will have to find another place to go. If hunters are after you, I cannot risk endangering my pack."
"I understand. We appreciate it."
I walk back to my small pack. I smile and let them know it’s okay. Cassadee and Mike look the most relieved. We follow the two Arctos through the rest of the station and through the city. The dark haired one looks back at us.
"My name is Kellin Quinn."
I introduce my pack and then we head over to their place. It turns out to be a big mansion-like house. Craig shows us two rooms for our use. The rest of the pack is staring and whispering questions to each other. They keep giving looks to Cassadee, which makes her move closer to her mate. Craig explains to his pack who we are and why we are here. That only makes them more confused. He leaves us to our rooms then.
Adam, Michael, and I go into one room and leave Cassadee and her mate to the other. Adam and Michael look over the room and check everything out before they relax. We get on to the bed and fall asleep.
---
We relax for the entire day. I want to go out and get some food for everyone, but Adam and Michael decide against it thinking it is best to gather when we are out of here. Cassadee is not feeling great. She transformed three times and has yet to regain her human form. She is in a lot of pain and Mike refuses to leave her side. Michael keeps watch over her while Adam goes out to look for another pack of wolves to let us stay. They don't trust anyone else to keep an eye for Cassadee. Craig is asking me about the hunters that are after us.
"I don't know much. My pack was never one to interact with humans or any other race outside of wolves. Hunters came after us unexpectedly when we were residing in Florida. They killed most of our population, but we were already having less people since the war. Nevertheless, we killed a lot of theirs too. After the raid, we were forced to migrate to a safe area. We heard of packs living here safely, but before we can find a place to settle, I want Cassadee to already give birth to her offspring."
Craig nods. "Well, I wish I could help, but my pack is my first priority. You are endangering us. Those hunters could still be on your trail. However, since a female is rare to have in a pack as it is, I let you stay...but I would like for you to be out here by tomorrow night."
"I understand."
I get up and leave. I check in on Cassadee. She is still wolf form, curled up to her mate. I leave the room and go to my own. I am starting to feel uneasy when Adam comes in the room.
"I want you in the same room as Cassadee. She needs you more. Michael should be back soon because I've already picked up his scent."
Adam just nods and heads towards the door. We hear a crashing in the other room. We rush into the room. Three of the Arctos pack are in the room. They are fighting with Mike, but he is heavily wounded already. Adam jumps in. He goes into his wolf form and bites the throats of them. The last one standing kills Mike but ripping into his throat. Adam is quick to avenge Mike and tears out his throat. Michael springs into the room and surveys it quickly.
"What happened?"
"Mike is dead. Adam and I were in the other room."
Michael goes to Cassadee to check her out for any injuries. She's turned back into a human and doesn't seem to have any injuries, but her stance tells us of great sadness.
"We have to leave. Now. We might be attacked again and soon. We are outnumbered. I found the Lupus in this area. They are known for their friendly and sociable nature. They even associate with the vampires."
"Michael, can you help Cassadee?"
He picks up the female while Adam remains as a wolf. He isn't going to change back until he knows we are safe. We have to leave Mike's body behind. It grieves me to do so, but it'll only slow us down. We leave the house and head into the direction Michael leads us in.

A/N: So this is the first chapter. This particular story of mine has been in the works since 2008. It's going under some major construction and re-writing. I just spent a long time coming up with a new character list. I still need more for parts much later on (any suggestions?).
But anyway, if there is anyone that wants to be a beta for me, it would help a lot. I have spent too long on this particular story, with long breaks in between sessions, so a second mind in the editing process would be great. I know there are parts of it that just don't make sense.
One more thing, I haven't been getting a lot of reviews on my last fic so that one will be on a pause. I'll come back to it eventually.
