Connor had not been practicing enough to play in this game. He had been sitting out with his groin pull. It was really disappointing for me. I had been warning him tho that if he kept having to sit out during practices he would not get to play in the game. He didn't seem to be too concerned. Until it happened.
Connor wasn't the only one. At this game we had a total of 4 boys sitting on the sideline. Luckily not so many we couldn't play the game.
We watched the game, which was good, but our team basically dominated the other one. It was almost sad. The game was pretty much over by half time because the point spread was so much that our team had to do the mercy ruling and take a knee during plays. If your team gets 32 points ahead of the other team your coach has to miss the next game. Five Star was finally able to make a touch down in, I think the 4th quarter, but there was no way they could make a come back.
We tried to make the game almost embarrassing for Connor. My thought was that he would not want to be on the sidelines if we heckled him. He was being part time water boy and ball boy. I had Steven yelling at him. "Hustle Connor!" Eventually it was clear my plan was not working, it was attention that Connor started to seem to enjoy. Oh well. He did learn part way thru the game that it was no fun having to stay on the sidelines. He went right into practice on Tuesday. I knew he was playing up his injury.
