I've been making some changes. All for the good.
The main thing is that I've been spending less time being absorbed in the various forms of digital media--less time online, watching tv, and on my phone. Already I've noticed a few results. Mainly, I feel like I am much less "busy." With that newfound freedom, away from the time-sapping internet, I naturally have been looking to do more productive things.
Mentally withdrawing myself from constantly thinking about what I could be doing with my phone has made me slow down and pay more attention to the world around me. It wasn't until I started withdrawing myself from these things that I began to notice how much better off I am without them.
This doesn't mean I'm cutting digital media out of my life completely, I've just chosen to limit it considerably. I still think there is a great importance in keeping up with all the new technology and feeling comfortable using it; I just needed to find that balance where it didn't control my time and attention.
The other thing I've been getting into more is meditation. I don't live a high-stress lifestyle, but it's still useful to just take some time now and then during the day and settle my mind. It helps me focus and think more clearly, and the stress that I do have is lessened.
Finally, I need to start getting back in to a schedule of regular exercise. I'd be much healthier if I lost some weight and got back in shape.
