Hamilton in T4, take two

Jan 18, 2009 05:54

Seems that McG is saying he's courting Linda Hamilton but only for her voice. He apparently wants her to do voice overs, in the manner of the tapes she was doing at the end of Terminator and the voice overs in Terminator 2. Also not a done deal, however, so we'll see. If she does it, it might get me to to rent the DVD. Not liking anything else I'm ( Read more... )

I'm just chiming in with my usual T4/TS/Sarah/Linda related stuff.

I don't know if any of you paid attention to Christian Bale's big media kerfluffle this week, but he did a radio interview this morning where he (along with lots of other stuff) said he was basing much of his John character on T2's Sarah when she was in the asylum. That "crazy in the blood" or somesuch. Which, I kind of liked. Big male action hero basing his character on his badass mother.

(Oh, he does technically get it wrong, saying she's in the asylum because she's crazy, but I think the point is that she's there because she can no longer hide her rage (against the machine.. heh))

Yes, I agree, she's not crazy, but her claims seem crazy and the frustration and rage from not being believe, from knowing this is something that could be stopped but no one is listening, of course makes her seem even more crazy.

I get what the point was about the crrrraaaazy though. She'd been driven a little mad by not being able to carry out her mission of protecting her son and ending the war ( ... )

Yes, Moon Bloodgood, who I did really like in the short lived Journeyman. She's made me hopeful, but I had been getting the impression she and other women in the movie are pretty marginal. Probably didn't get as buff as Hamilton, but she wasn't super skinny in a TV season of the super skinny and jackets help. She can play fierce well.

Yeah, wonder how many of those fanboys could fire a .50 at all without wetting their pants. *snerk*

You know, you could share this stuff with the whole class if you joined. ~;)

You know, I want to join. I'm just afraid I'm not enough of a physical feminist. Which is kind of weird and bullshit, since '91s SC was a childhood role model, I love Terminator, I love strong women, I love weight lifting (so annoying when the equipment delivery boy assumed the new weight bench was for my husband) and I started training for a marathon again last week.

But, I don't know. Sometimes I'm okay with stuff you (or y'all) aren't cool with. I even liked SCC for a season, started a Derek Reese community, and generally liked Cameron. I never liked Headey's Sarah -- as much as I tried -- but I did try to give her a chance, skinny freakin' arms and all.

What the hell. I'll join. You won't mind my TS ravings? I'm, like, T4's number one freaking fangirl. Sometimes it feels like I'm alone in a sea of fanboys.

Everyone here probably has a varying identity with physical feminism, but as long as you have some, you fit. Likewise, we have a few others here who have tried to give the show a chance on the other merits. I do love Glau, I wish so much to see her in a good role worthy of her...and as a grown-up.

Please do focus, as you have, your TS ravings here mostly on the women. Honestly, I do really appreciate having a source for more info. I also have had it with the fanboys to the extent that I don't have much chance to keep up. And I REALLY do want to know what's up with the women in the movie AND how they are being viewed...but I really don't want to do that "infiltration" myself right now. LOL

And, go you on the marathon training!

Thanks for the response. I promise to limit it to the women. I won't at all monologue about Christian Bale's spectacular ass. *cough* No, really, I'm good with the audience-specific filter, and I am totally your woman on the inside ( ... )

Excellent, welcome to the Resistance. ~;)

Yeah, I hate fake tough. And I had Starbuck pushed as a great character to me, but found that she was never written quite as what she could be. Showing the savvy that it takes when you're smaller actually is not a bad thing, thank you! It's what impact self-defense training, which I promote heavily, is all about. And, well, I noticed that the actress who plays her had some muscle in the first season but it seemed to have dwindled. (And no, I don't buy "but no one could maintain it with the schedule an actress has to keep. Male actors keep the same sort of schedule but ARE expected to maintain muscle...and Lilly who plays Kate on LOST has managed to stay very buff, never mind that her character is not that inspiring for me in any other way ( ... )

I got really into BSG about a year and a half ago, and I spent a few months posting on the BSG boards over at scifi.com. Ron Moore's wife is a regular poster there, and there were actually quite a few discussions about the actresses on the show and whether or not they were good physical role models. Now, she wasn't as concerned about whether they were strong, but was concerned with how skinny all of them were, and particularly how much weight Katee Sackhoff had lost through the course of the show. She maintained that RDM did not pressure them to lose weight at all, and that it was their own choosing. She also contended Mary McDonnell was the only one of the regulars with healthy body weight ( ... )

You know, it's rather ironic McDonnell is the BSG woman with the healthiest weight...considering her character has every reason to not be at a healthy weight. (not that I'd want McDonnell to sicken herself just to play a cancer patient, I'm just saying). Sadly, I did find that Starbuck was not particularly believable and is often a bit too much of a Mary Sue with a naughty streak (she might be a bit violent and otherwise seem morally imperfect, but yeah, she seems to always be able to outdo everyone).

I never watched much of Farscape, the writing didn't keep my interest at the time, but I have seen pictures of Claudia Black where she does look quite buff. I think she can look very physically imposing. Of course, I also like her face...very beautiful but not in the typical girly-girl way that seems to be favored. Very strong ( ... )
