Once upon a time, there was an alternate universe...

I've had a story idea in my head since just prior to the release of HBP, which as we all know, canon-shafted a lot of people's ideas, including mine. (And quite probably, DH will put the figurative nail in the coffins of a lot more ideas.) So, I put the idea into a file and buried it on my hard drive. However, instead of realizing that it was dead and lying there quietly, the idea spit dirt in my face and clawed its way out of the grave at the earliest opportunity. Like any self-respecting zombie, it's been nibbling on my brain since.

The idea keeps popping up at the most inopportune moments, and I keep going back and poking at it in an effort to get it to shut up, but it just... won't. The file has grown from a two-paragraph idea into an eleven-page conglomeration of bits of plot, snippets of dialogue and ideas for detail and setting.

It's not a premise that I've seen used before, but to write it, I'd have to go AU. As in "goes off on a tangent at the end of OotP" AU. And it would have to be at least 15-16 chapters long in order to do it justice.

I've decided to go ahead and write the thing, because it just won't shut up and I'm to the point of "Arrrgggghhhhh! Get out of my head!" but there's a mercenary part of me that hesitates to write something like that if no one will read it. I've never been a review h0r (not that there's anything wrong with that!) but let's face facts, we all post our stuff on the internet so that someone other than ourselves will read it.

So in an effort to either blatantly bolster my ego or prepare myself for the upcoming deafening silence, I've made a very serious and scientific poll:

Poll AU fic

ETA: Does anyone know of a way to get a poll to show the results all the time without actually voting in it or clicking through various links to get to them?
